Sicily, Italy based artist Sasha Vinci creates haunting sculptures and installations that contemplate the nature of man's existence. While his works can be morbid and a bit terrifying, as in his series of fleshy seated subjects waiting for eternity, Vinci also finds beauty and sexuality in the human figure. Known for his captivating and carnal sculptures, Vinci is a true multimedia artist, also exploring drawing, painting, writing, sound design and performance art.

The Simple Cowl Free Knitting Pattern is a great way to fend off the first chill of winter because it's smaller and quicker to knit than your average scarf.
Korean artist Choi Xooang (whom we previously featured here) creates hyperreal, resin sculptures that shock with their unexpected, violent manipulations of the human body. His latest body of work features couples and doubles grappling with each other's flesh. In one piece, a woman's fist penetrates the back of another's skull while in another, a masked woman is strapped with a male torso like a backpack, carrying the weight of another's mutated and mutilated body. Choi adds eroticism to these graphic visions. The bodies he chooses to manipulate are graceful and model-esque, yet each one contains its own set of disorienting details that provoke our collective anxieties.
Salman Khoshroo builds figures out of electric wire, with the resulting character being made for both close inspection and movement. His reflections show the ties between the human machine and the manmade machine. And his kinetic sculptures, in particular, tell of the inherent ability for motion in both of these.
Luo Li Rong’s figurative sculptures evoke movement and intrigue, whether it’s the artist’s feminine, graceful figures or her otherworldly creatures. The China-born, Belgium-based artist has received several high honors, including commissions for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. A statement talks about the varied influences of the sculptor.

Berlin-based illustrator Kaethe Butcher draws girls with fiercely unique personalities. Written words are dropped onto her drawings, revealing the internal thoughts of young women figuring out the complexities of love and life. Her quirky characters are the kind of girls who smoke cigarettes in bath tubs while contemplating their existence in a chaotic world. Many of Butcher's sweet, sensuous drawings border on erotica. Butcher's women waver between losing themselves in passionate throws and drawing away in jealous suspicion. They question their lovers just as they question themselves. The combination of exacting body language, block text and a monotone color palette reinforce her character's inner world as opposed to her physical actions or being.
New York based artist Hope Gangloff paints expressive and visually striking portraits with emotional depth. First covered here, her portraits primarily depict family, friends and other artists in intimate, vaguely erotic and melancholy scenes. Gangloff has described her paintings as caricatures- rather than capturing her subjects' likeness, she focuses on their details separately and intensely, and exaggerates their features like hands and feet.

Turkish-American designer Eda Yorulmazoğlu crafts wild costumes, with both distinct body of works and individual creatures as part of her repertoire. The Brooklyn based artist Patrick Jacobs explores the gallery space in a unique way. He installs his work inside galleries - literally within the gallery. Jacobs carefully constructs meticulously detailed diorama-like models. These models are then installed within the white walls of the gallery and fitted with porthole type windows. The installations give the appearance of miniature and often vividly colored worlds hidden within the gallery structure. However, the small round windows only allow viewers to act as onlookers, as if scientific researchers or even giant voyeurs. A world that would be pleasant to get lost in is perpetually inaccessible. See more of Patrick Jacobs' installations after the jump.

The sculptural work of Korean artist Dongwook Lee is disturbing yet curious on multiple levels. Lee most often sculpts the nude human body. However, it's executed with a certain grotesqueness and on a small scale. The sculptures' diminutive size encourages viewers to look at the bodies as things or objects, as if they were insects. However, this stands in contrast to a natural empathy we have with the human form we share that lends the art a distressing atmosphere. Lee's work identifies and exploits a general uneasiness many have with the physical body, the carnal, and the fleshly - a hyper-awareness of the body and its delicate nature.
Peter Gentenaar, a paper artist based in the Netherlands, creates ethereal, large-scale sculptures of organic shapes that float in mid-air as they hang from the ceilings. Some look like aquatic plant life while others resemble the qualities of bright, delicate spring flowers. Gentenaar's craft evolved from his love for paper, a passion he acquired from the many years he spent working in a printmaking shop. His unusual, stunning work defies conventional thinking regarding paper's colloquial, everyday use. Read more after the jump.
Since its inception, Hollywood has shown us an image of unattainable youth and glamour, though quite frankly, French collage artist Matthieu Bourel doesn't seem too impressed. Whether in his hand-cut collages or entrancing animated GIFs, Bourel deconstructs images of models and actors of a bygone era. He splices divas' head shots with anatomical diagrams, peeling away what looks like layers of skin to reveal veins and eyeballs. In other works, faces come off like masks only to reveal more removable faces underneath. Bourel's bizarre and slightly morbid work points to the illusions of the entertainment industry. He makes his viewers cognizant of the absurdity of our celebrity-obsessed culture through his strange sense of humor.

Chinese sculptor Liu Xue creates human-animal hybrids that are both elegant and disturbing, displaying a range of emotions between acceptance and anxiety in their existences. A man-pig appears in anguish; a man-walrus exudes confidence and defiance.
Britain based Artist Magnus Gjoen juxtaposes styles and periods with his often large scale prints. Gjoen's work has a way of transforming jarring contrasts into visually attractive compositions which, in part, may be due to his background in fashion and design. What I initially noticed about Gjoen's work, however, is the dynamic between a modern sort of nihilism and classical spirituality. His artwork seems to synthesize the two and nearly present these very different modern and classical feelings as if they are somehow related. Within Gjoen's art the story of violence, beauty, and death has changed little over the centuries. See more of Magnus Gjoen's artwork after the jump.
