My mom is 90 years old, and suffers from dementia. Her memory is pretty much gone, although she'll tell you she can't live without her husband. That's my 91-year old dad, who takes care of her. They live in their home of 20 years on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. And, unfortunately, all three of their children live in California. Suffice it to say that we have hounded them for years to move to the west coast, but my dad is pretty stubborn. So day after day, he gets up, makes her breakfast, does all the cooking, cleaning, marketing and tries to entertain her the best that he can. I heard something about National Caregivers Day. I looked it up, and it doesn't happen until February, but I made this card to honor my dad: The name of the stamp set is Spirited Snowmen. I think it fits my dad perfectly! And isn't this image just as sweet as can be? I think it captures my mom and dad, who have been married for 67 years, and are still together "in sickness and in health". Just a few details: The card base is Thick Whisper White. The Designer Series Paper is from the Tranquil Textures pack. The image was stamped in Tuxedo Black; I masked it and sponged the sky with Balmy Blue and Night of Navy inks after stamping and heat embossing the snowflakes. I also stamped the snowmen "bottoms" on Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper and cut them out to fit the Glimmer Paper around them to look like snow. And I colored the images with Stampin' Blends. Ah, love...it never melts! I can't believe it's already day 8 of the series! Today we get to hear from KJ who blogs at Lets Go Fly a Kite and pins on Pinterest here. She made some adorable Lucia dolls from clothespins that you should definitely check out when you get a chance. KJ is a talented crafter and has many creative ideas for crafting with kids. Be sure to stop by her blog! This is KJ's first year participating in the series and today she is going to share all about Kransekake. Hello, I am KJ and I blog about crafty messes over at lets go fly a kite. My paternal ancestry is Norwegian. My ancestors left western Norway in the early 1900s to settle the Canadian prairie. They have always maintained a strong connection to Norway in language, food, and craft. We participate in family reunions every five years and they rotate between Canada, Minnesota, and Norway. Most recently, in 2010, I had the opportunity to visit Iceland and Norway and meet our relatives in Bergen. Kransekake is a traditional Scandinavian desert. Usually, it is made from marzipan rings and often served at weddings or Christmas. For my sister’s wedding in 2001, we made a kransekake under the tutelage of a dear Norwegian friend. Here is another example from an extended family member’s wedding. For Christmas, you might consider making a modern star kransekake. My sister gave me these star cookie cutters for Christmas (this version is available at William Sonoma). I wasn’t able to find a link to the WS recipe anywhere, so I am posting it here with my tweaks. Ingredients: 5 cups flour 1 tsp salt 24 tbsp or 3 sticks of unsalted butter 2 cups sugar 2 eggs 1 tbs vanilla extract Parchment paper Four baking trays Cookie dough (must be prepared and refrigerated for at least 2 hours up to 2 days ahead) Sift flour and salt set aside. Using a stand mixer, beat butter on high for 2 minutes (use the flat beater attachment). Reduce speed to medium and slowly add granulated sugar and beat for 2 minutes, stopping the mixer occasionally to scrape down bowl. Add the eggs one at time and beat until mixed. Add vanilla and beat for one minute, stopping mixer midway to scrape down sides. Stop the mixture and add half the flour mixture. Beat on low speed until most of the flour has been absorbed. Add the remaining flour and continue beating for about 2-3 minutes until all the flour has been absorbed and the dough starts to pull from the sides of the bowl. Turn the dough onto a work surface and divide into 4 equal balls. Shape each ball into a disk and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate 2 hours or up to two days. Remove dough from the fridge and let stand for 5 minute. The dough may have to stand longer if it is really cold. On a lightly floured surface , roll out dough for ¼ inch thickness. Preheat oven to 350. Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Cut out cookies, 2 from each cutter and carefully transfer to your four baking sheets. I found that this recipe should be sufficient for 20 stars with a enough dough left over for a few extra small stars. Bake 13-15 minutes, but watch closely and if necessary rotate your pans half way through to ensure even baking (keep an eye on the oven!). Remove from oven and transfer cookies to cooling rack. Allow to completely cool prior to icing. I used royal icing, but the possibilities are endless, green sugar crystals would be pretty. Some Tips : Watch the oven and rotate your pans so that each pan is evenly baked. It is easiest to bake all of your cookies at once, so if you can get your hands on four cookie pans, it makes the process easier. If you find that the cookies are not completely flat or that your kransekake leans, you can compensate by secretly tucking in a piece of graham cracker or other biscuit Wishing you a happy Christmas and if you are interested in another Scandinavian Christmas treat, I have posted instructions for krumkake here. God Jul, Huge thanks again to KJ for sharing her beautiful kransekake today! Check back tomorrow for Day 9!

This technique is called a "fractured card" or a "shutter card," because it resembles the shutter on a camera lens. I've used the Magical Meadow Bundle and coordinating Designer Paper , Winter Meadow. The cardstock colors are Lost Lagoon and Blueberry Bushel which are found in the DSP. This card has a 4 x 5-1/4 inch piece of embossed cardstock instead of using patterned paper. The square shape in the middle of the card was created with a piece of patterned paper. Materials: Card Base 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 scored @ 4-1/4 2-3/8 x 2-3/8 cardstock square. Stylish Shapes Dies work well for this if you like. four cardstock strips that are 1/4 x 5-1/2 same color as card base. Designing and Prepping the card: Start by choosing a piece of patterned paper and cut it to 4 x 5-1/4 inches. Next, choose your color scheme based on the patterned paper. For example, I chose Lost Lagoon and white as my color scheme for the first card. For the second card I used Lost Lagoon and Blueberry Bushel. I created the card base and the 1/4 inch strips in Lost Lagoon. Cut 4 pieces of Lost Lagoon cardstock measuring 1/4 x 5-1/2 inches. You will also need a square shape measuring 2-3/8 x 2-3/8 inches or less. The smaller the square shape, the more defined the fractured look of the card will be. You can also use the 2nd to the largest square from the Sylish Shapes Dies. Card Construction: Adhere the square shape to the center of the patterned paper so it creates a diamond. Next, adhere the 1/4 inch strips around the square shape to create the fractured design. Begin anywhere on the square and line up a strip beginning at the edge of the square. Rotate counter clockwise to the next side. Align the strip up next to the edge of the previous strip and let the strip run off the edge of the cardstock layer. Continue rotating counterclockwise, butting up to the previous strip and let the strip run off the edge. To Review: It's as easy as 123. Glue a strip on the edge of the square allowing it to run off the card base. Rotate card counter clockwise Butt the strip up to the edge of the previous strip allowing the strip to run off the edge of the card base.

I am very excited as it is the time of year for the Heart of Christmas Blog hop. Each week on a Monday for the next 24 weeks, finishing on December 13th, the Art With Heart Team will bring you inspiration that is all things Christmas! For you that means when you hit on the "onto the next Art With Heart Team blog" button and the link is broken you can go to the hosts blog and there you will find the list of participants so you can click on their name and continue on with your blog hop. This week I am hosting so the list will be at the bottom of my post just in case there are any technical difficulties! We look forward to bringing you our creativity and love of Stampin' Up! Christmas products. Well today for our first Heart of Christmas blog hop I have a fancy fold for you. I know, I know, I just couldn't start such a special blog hop series without a fun and fancy fold for you! I have chosen to use the Poinsettia Petals stamp set and dies that carried over into the annual catalogue. I know you are looking at this card and saying that doesn't look like a fancy fold card Sharon what are you talking about. You have been in lockdown way too many times and have lost your mind. Well I may have lost my mind but this card is magic! It looks like an ordinary card but open it up and................. On the inside of the card there are 2 pop up panels. This card is called a double pop up card. Here is a video of the card opening so you can see how magic it is! I know I told you it was magic! I found this card by Sam Calcott in the UK but I changed the measurements to make the card fit into our envelopes rather than be as large as she had made hers. So what did I do to all the elements. I used Versamark and gold emboss powder to stamp all the poinsettias and leaf elements and used the Light and Dark Cherry Cobbler and Light and Dark Old Olive Stampin' Blends to colour each card once I had heat embossed them. The back of the card I have placed a decorated page where you can write your message to the person you are giving this Christmas card. On the front of the card I have stamped the other poinsettia in the stamp set in Versamark and heat embossed in gold and cut out all 3 layers and placed a dimensional between each layer. The other elements are also heat embossed in gold and I have used the Gold Shimmer ribbon to finish of the card. This was a fun card to make and now that I have worked out the dimensions I think I will make a few more. If you have any questions on how to make this card or you would like to get your hands on the new mini that is coming out in August with lots of fun new Christmas stamps and papers just let me know and I am happy to help. Now is the time to head on to the next team member participating and I always love seeing what Theresa Gerrard has for us so just click on the button and you will go straight to her blog. In case of technical difficulties here is the list of today's participants: Cathy Proctor Claire Daly Vicki Boucher Andrea Sargent Kate Morgan Christine Blain Michele Taylor Rachel Woollard Judy May Ros Davidson Sharon Davern Theresa Gerrard Tina Gillespie Caroline Manwaring Rosa Leyden Thank you for spending some crafty time with me today, take care,
A Swedish tea ring is a traditional Scandinavian pastry often served during holidays or special occasions. It's made from a rich, sweet yeast dough rolled out flat, then topped with a sweet filling and rolled up into a log shape, similar to a cinnamon roll. The log is then shaped into a circle or ring. Once the ring has taken shape, cuts are made along the outside of the circle to expose the swirls of filling within. Our Raspberry Cheesecake Swedish Tea Ring is filled with a cream cheese and raspberry filling, creating a unique and delicious twist on the classic pastry. The final product is a beautiful, festive, wreath-like pastry that's as delightful to look at as it is to eat.
