“It started with the concept of implementing the pawnbroker sign onto a folding chair, a common piece of household furniture. Pawnbroker signboards on street corners were a signature feature of the Hong Kong street scene. Few pawnshops remain nowadays. In collaboration with Profilia of West Germany (Far East), we aim to start a new ‘Chair Fun’ series, and also pay tribute to our collective cultural memory.”
Size: 15x10cm /6x4" Composition: 300gsm ultra pearlescent, hi-white paper Print: giclee/archival quality White envelope included Blank inside Made in England I have been to Hong Kong many times over the last few years as I sell my Hong Kong illustrated Cityscape souvenir and tote bag range to many shops in the city. I love the mix of traditional Cantonese culture and colonial heritage with the increasing additional layer of twenty first century structures and social scene. I always stay in Sai Ying Pun because I love the traditional food shops on the streets and the short, albeit very steep, walk up to the lovely little bars and bistros of the Mid Levels. I climb Victoria Peak every year and once walked all the way over the mountains from Hong Kong to Stanley on the south of the island. I could hardly walk for days and so that was literally a once in a lifetime experience. Shop Julia's Art on Etsy! https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/JuliaGash

A few weekends ago, I took my second whirlwind trip to Hong Kong and I’ve seriously fallen in love with this vibrant city. A truly multicultural and bustling place, you can find everything here; all jam-packed into a condensed and easily accessible area. A jungle of apartment blocks, full of color, characters and contradictions; the city has an incredible energy which made me feel revitalized and inspired. Here’s a guide to some of my favorites in and around Central! See Man Mo Temple (文武廟) Forever my favorite temple in Hong Kong, the atmospheric Man Mo Temple is filled with incense smoke. In tones of red and gold, there are lanterns and coils of incense hanging from the ceiling. Dedicated to the gods of literature and war, it’s a place to pray for both success in academia and to settle disputes. Man Mo Temple, 124-126 Hollywood Road, Tai Ping Shan, Hong Kong Tin Hau Temple (天后廟) Tin Hau is the Goddess of the Sea and temples honoring her are usually found along the coast. This inner city temple is an exception to the rule; it was once close to the ocean before successive land reclamations took place. Outside it’s surrounded by greenery and …
