"Flowers seem intended for the solace of ordinary humanity." ~John Ruskin Around this time of year my Mum and I love to start browsing through all of the new Christmas decorations starting to appear in shop windows. We go to boutiques, department stores, and flower shops soaking up all of the sparkle and evergreen like we're starving for it! During one such outing last week we went into a little flower shop and towards the back we saw the most beautiful fresh roses that either of us has ever seen! The lady cutting flowers for bouquets told us their name but of course I have forgotten it! My Mum turned to me and said if I buy some you have to photograph them! So here are the photos of our gorgeous three pink roses purchased while Christmas shopping! I also have some exciting news - I found a printer! I still have a lot of work to do but the Jennelise etsy store is now in sight so stay tuned! Drawing by Jennelise
"Pink is the color of romance and a friend tells me that the girl with the pink dress at the party is the one who is selected for each dance." ~Alfred Carl Hottes One of the first posts I did when I started this blog was about my love for pink! If you have been visiting for a little while you will know by now that this love borders ever so slightly on obsession. Pink is the color of my world there is no denying it. I have loved it since I was a little girl and I imagine that I will be an old lady surrounded by pink roses still! Here are the photos to prove to you that I am a PINK GIRL! Some of my lovely pink things and a quick sketch I made for my Mum (who also happens to love pink - quelle surpise!). Have a rosy weekend! I am joining Pink Saturday at How Sweet the Sound! P.S. The lovely ribbon roses that find their way into a great many of my photos are from http://www.meadowstreet.com/! Drawing by Jennelise
"Pixie, kobold, elf, and sprite, All are on their rounds tonight; In the wan moon's silver ray, Thrives their helter-skelter play." ~Joel Benton It seems like this week has passed by quickly with very few spare moments for posting! Last night I danced until well after midnight in a Pirate costume with my friends - not something I do often! Very fun and well-worth the sore feet today. I feel like I have been in Halloween mode for quite awhile now what with all of the costume drawings, posts, and so on. It isn't even here yet! I just wanted to share a blog with you that I discovered through one of the blog parties I participated in last week. It is called All Things Pretty and has some truly fantastic Halloween things right now! I have included some photos of creations from All Things Pretty and I hope that you will visit the blog to see more! Also I am posting a set of drawings I did last Halloween. They are part of a series I created called The Darkling Dolls. Enjoy! ***************************** Drawings by Jennelise
"We all have our own life to pursue, our own kind of dream to be weaving. And we all have some power to make wishes come true, as long as we keep believing." ~Louisa May Alcott Sometimes when I dream I remember things I never knew. It's a power that only appears in those few moments before your mind is truly asleep and all its little corners are brightening. I see things that I couldn't hope to imagine during the day and I feel a little enchanted by what can only be a lost sense not realized when I'm awake. A few sentences from a book, an image from a film, an experience during the day, a thousand memories I'd thought long forgotten, images I conjured in my mind that disappeared half-formed - they all reappear in tantalizing color when I dream. Sometimes they are frightening. Childhood memories of shadows under my parents bed or nightmare things that skulk around the edges when I'm not sure I'm awake or asleep. Sometimes they are beyond beautiful - a sprawling estate with haunted windows and imperious tenants, cathedral cities where the light is orange and heavy, fairytale palaces peopled by otherworldly royalty, and always I find myself in the center looking on or playing my part. Sometimes I write things down and look at them months later astounded by the detail and wishing I had written more. Sometimes my night time dreams feed those of the day and I am inspired to create something. Sometimes these dreams are so absorbing I find myself staring into space and have to be recalled back to the present! Like right now! How lovely are dreams and the things that inspire them. I found this beautiful blog the other day and wanted to share some of the dreamy and ethereal photos displayed there. It is called We are the dreamers of dreams and seems to celebrate everything that is fanciful, whimsical, nostalgic, timeless, and utterly deserving of a moment's quiet reverie. The photos are collected from many different places and the sources can be found when clicking on them individually - I have also included a very old fairytale drawing of mine at the end of the photos. Enjoy and remember to dream everyday and to everyday live your dreams! Drawing by Jennelise

"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate." ~Oprah Winfrey My Mum said let's have a tea party for your birthday this year it's been a little while since we've had one. So we did! I am turning 35 this year and yet I wanted to do something that made me feel like a child again where I could dress up and play. Inspired by the abundance of flowers, ribbons, and flowy dresses of my new obsession Loveshack Fancy we set about creating a little fantasy for an afternoon full of flowers, lace, and handmade decorations. There was even a fairytale scavenger hunt! Everything we needed for a magical afternoon...
"A memory...an exquisite treasure, an inexhaustible source of pure refreshment." ~Charlotte Bronte I was looking through my old files full of photos and found the first set that I took of this doll's dress. I took it with my sister's point and shoot camera and it was probably the first time that I had played at photography. I bought myself a new camera for my birthday in May and I thought that this dress deserved another photoshoot. I love this dress - It is made from the most beautiful lace and has little silk ribbons, pink gauze, stitched petals, and a crinoline! I added a pretty pink Meadow Street rose to the front and I have it hanging in my bedroom. I hope you like the pictures - for those of you who have been with me from the beginning I think you will agree that they are a little better quality though it doesn't much matter because the dress is beautiful no matter what. (I have also included the little drawing I did of the dress in the beginning.) This week I am linking to the blog party at Faded Charm called White Wednesday. Enjoy! Drawing by Jennelise
I was sitting at work during a slow hour today and paging absent-mindedly through a magazine to pass the time. Turning one page there was a little article about a couple starting a bed and breakfast - without much interest I started reading it. The photograph of a picturesque little white house provided the backdrop as the writer told of her and her husband's journey from vague dream, to the purchase of the house and subsequent painstaking renovations, to their first guests. It was a charming story that appealed to me in some unknown way. When I reached the final few paragraphs of the article the author talked about the rich rewards of pursuing her dream and working through the difficulties and set-backs which were by no means easy! There were times, she said, she wanted to let it all go but persevered in spite of the trials and doubts until their was success. She wrote in her conclusion, "So go ahead---dream, follow your passion and if that dream doesn't work, try another one." I couldn't believe my eyes started to prick! I laughed inside as I sat behind the counter of the store I work in and tried to keep tears from leaking out. I don't know if something inside of me wanted permission to dream or responded to the simplicity of the message in her story. Dream and then try. Don't give up or be afraid to work hard. Difficult doesn't mean impossible and the reward is always there for the people who hold tight - hearts open and ready to receive. I smiled as I read the closing line of this lady's story - words by Henry David Thoreau: "Live the life you have imagined." I've shared a few of my passions with you already, but today I wanted to give you a little peek at one of my first loves: drawing. I have been drawing since I was a toddler and it has always given me incredible joy. To share it with others in some way has always been one of my dreams. Below are some photos of my sketchbook and a few drawings I have done with the materials that I love to use. I hope you like them, and most of all I hope that you have passions and dreams that inspire you to create and act and live fearlessly!

"Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August." ~Jenny Han In the spirit of fitting every possible drop of fun into these last few days of summer I spent today with my family at Heritage Park! A historical village complete with antique trains and a ferry, cute shops, an amusement park, and so much more! I snapped a few pictures of the historical houses and some of the things that I saw while I was there. I loved the children picnicking on the lawn of one of the larger houses in their pinafores and caps. The little shops are so full of beautiful displays of authentic antiques as well - just my kind of place! I hope everyone is enjoying these last few days of August!
"It is as grandmothers that our mothers come into the fullness of their grace." ~Christopher Morley My Grandparents - or Nana and Grandad as I have always called them - were born and grew up in England. My Mother was born in Hull Yorkshire and as a family they immigrated to Canada when she was four. My Nana has often felt homesick over the years and has travelled back to England often. She likes to have more traditional things around her in her home and there is a real English influence in her style. I went to my Grandparents house last week to take some pictures of my Nana's things - she loves warm woods, bright colors, and LOTS of flowers! Because it is winter most of her flowers are artificial, but when spring arrives there will be bouquets of fresh flowers in every available vase! My Nana loves comfort and more than anything she wants her rooms to be places where her family are comfortable gathering together and visiting. I have had Christmas there all my life! Mostly I have taken photos of all her little treasures - her flowers, ornaments, jewelry, and all of the pretty things that I have come to think of as uniquely her over the years. I hope you enjoy these few glimpses into my Nana's home... Drawing by Jennelise
"If you wait until you have enough money to decorate and make your home your own it will never happen. If you wait until you can afford to buy everything new you are missing the point. It is the old, the new, the made, the hand-me-down, the collected, the worn (but loved) things in your home that make it your own." ~Stacy Risenmay Well I have had a summer cold all week which has not been fun! Colds should not exist when the sun is shining and the weather is warm in my opinion. It is July! I can hardly believe how the time has flown. The season of sun is here and all of the favourite pastimes of the summer are waiting around the corner! I can hardly wait! Because I was sick this week I didn't get the chance to take lots of pictures. The week previous though I helped out at my favourite antique store for a day and I did take some quick photos with my phone of just a few of the gorgeous treasures to be found there. I wanted to capture details-- the cut of antique crystal, a pretty painted face on a figurine, the gilt patina of a mirror, little things that help to make antiques and vintage pieces so special. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Remember to enjoy the little things in life...sometimes they are the most important!
"After all there is something about a wedding gown prettier than in any other gown in the world." ~Douglas William Jerrold My parents were married in June and I have always considered it to be a wonderful month for a wedding. Every year it seems I receive an invitation from some dear friend for their June wedding. I am so excited to unveil what I have been working on for the past couple of weeks! My previous post in March which included a series of evening gown drawings inspired me to create my fantasy wedding gowns. The next few posts will include many bridal treats beginning with my gowns by: Jennelise Rose Bridal Couture. I hope you like them and will stay tuned for more Bridal posts including gorgeous Etsy stores, drawings, photos, and more! "A bit of fragrance always clings to the hand that gives you roses." ~Proverb What a busy week! I meant to post sooner but I honestly haven't had a spare minute! It's nice when life is busy but I also enjoy some relaxation time. Here are a few things that I love to do when there is a quiet day: Draw, read outside, go for walks, listen to music, dance, play the piano, sing to myself, snooze on the deck (in summer), drink a cup of peppermint tea with a cookie (in the winter), tidy my room, write, go out with my Mum, visit the bakery, play with my sister, search for antiques, and take photographs! Last week when I came home from church my sister took these few pictures of me and I have added a few other rose arrangements - I hope you like them! When I looked at them later they made me feel peaceful and summery... Drawing by Jennelise
"Lean on a garden urn--- Weave, weave the sunlight in your hair." ~T. S. Eliot It is finally beginning to feel like summer! Today was actually hot and I felt nice in a breezy skirt and cotton t-shirt. No jacket! I love summer. I love waking up in the morning and the deck door is open and I can see the sunshine and green grass outside. I love sitting at the ice cream table and reading with a popsicle. I love the heavy air and the long evenings. Summer is so beautiful! Here are a series of photos I have been saving for a summer day like today. Drawing by Jennelise
"I fell asleep beneath a tree and dreamt I met eternity She asked my if I felt it right that minutes flew like drops of light That time remained a thing unseen and she a fairy-tale queen." ~Jennelise The year is almost up and I have been looking back at all of the things I have done, loved, created, discovered, and experienced in the past twelve months. In february I picked up a point and shoot digital camera and started taking pictures of things in my house. Not long after this I began a blog - with no experience or idea of where it would lead except that I was bursting to create something pretty and maybe to have a place of my own where I could display the things that I loved (including my artwork which I had never before showcased). In May I bought a DSLR because it had only taken a few hours playing with my sister's little point and shoot to discover that I LOVED photography! I am amazed that from these little choices this blog has evolved and the support and friendship I have received from so many people has been an overwhelming source of inspiration and encouragement. Sometimes you just need someone else to say that what you do is lovely. It makes all the difference. Thankyou for the time you spent reading my sometimes clumsy words and browsing through my pictures - I have loved sharing them with you and I am SO excited to see what the New Year brings because I expect it will be even more exciting than the last. My etsy store is twinkling on the horizon and I am brimming with new ideas thanks to the incredible bloggers and creative women out there whose talent inspires me. Thankyou again! I have had a wonderful time looking through all of this year's photos and drawings and I have created a few collages to help you remember. Here is a little look at Jennelise Rose 2011... "He could never see her come into a room without a sense of the flowing of robes, of the flowering of blossoms, of the purple waves of the sea..." ~Virginia Woolf, 'Night and Day' I came across a beautiful photograph not long ago that was posted on one of my favorite fashion blogs called The Sea Has Neither Meaning Nor Pity (wonderful title and wonderful blog!!). Sometimes when you see a picture it automatically appeals to you either because it reflects your style, or creativity, or you can appreciate something unique and different about it. When I see a picture I either love it for one of the above reasons or I look at it and think - oh my goodness that makes me want to draw! This photo made my fingers itch for a pen right away, and so I have drawn ten gowns inspired by it and entitled the series "The Evening Flowers". I'm afraid I don't know who the photograph is by, but I have included it so that you can appreciate it's beauty and my inspiration. The Evening Flowers
THE DAY HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!!! The Jennelise Rose etsy store is finally open! I know it seems like it has taken me an incredible amount of time to get my store up and running - I had no idea how many little details needed to be sorted out before one could conceivably have an online shop! Thankyou so much for your patience and encouragement - it has meant a lot to me! I am starting out slowly with a limited number of prints but have no fear there will be more added all the time. If there is one that you particularly want and you'd like me to hurry it along just let me know either through etsy or email me directly (or you can even leave me a comment on a post). Here are some pictures of the prints available, one of the designs I thought I would use in the beginning for business cards, and my actual business cards! I am very excited to be opening a little store! I hope you all like it too! Drawing by Jennelise
I'm just another Pretty Shabby Chic Blog! Thank you for stopping by....
"No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn." ~Hal Borland Antique porcelain is one of my most favourite things. I love Limoges china with roses and I am constantly on the hunt for it. It has become so hard to find! I got lucky last year before Christmas and happened upon a few lovely pieces and today I decided to photograph them together in little vignettes. China is one of my most favourite things to photograph! The details always seem to come into focus in the picture and I appreciate them so much more! I am sharing with: Make it Pretty Monday

"Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart." ~William Wordsworth I remember the first time my Mum let me read her journal. It was like meeting her for the first time even though I had known her all my life. I felt closer to her and through her simple words caught on paper I learned a little about how to live my own life well. It made me want to write the special moments of my days down too if only just for myself and not any future reader. I've kept a journal ever since! Granted not always with real dedication but I have always had one. I think it's important to capture our memories somehow even if you only record a few words or a single picture taped to the page. Those things will mean something to you later that you can't imagine now. I was given a beautiful journal for Christmas from my Mum by Georgianna Lane Photography and what is special about it is the layout. You can divide your day into "roses" and "thorns" and simply jot down the good and the bad that meant something to you. I love this concept! I think the more that we record our blessings and challenges the easier it is to appreciate the good things in life - and trust me there are ALWAYS good things.
"A single rose can be my garden...a single friend my world." ~Leo Buscaglia Hello again! This afternoon I went out for a long drive through the countryside with my family - it was very sunny and the landscape was green and growing. We laughed and joked and stopped for a treat along the way. It was a very happy summer's day! Coming back to the city after roaming through the country made me appreciate the importance of bringing a little bit of nature into our lives and our homes. It is easy to add a little bit of the garden to your rooms with flowers or iron and stone accessories. I have taken a few photos of things in my home that are garden inspired - I hope you like them! Remember to enjoy the sunshine this summer! Drawing by Jennelise
"The beautiful spring came; and when Nature resumes her loveliness, the human soul is apt to revive also." ~Harriet Ann Jacobs I woke up very early this morning for some reason and lay in bed enjoying the rising sun streaming through my window. I think I am on the mend and hopefully I will be myself again soon! The one advantage to getting sick is that I am forced to have some down time and whenever I have that I draw! I have just added two original pieces of artwork to the Etsy Shop - "Marie Antoinette" and "Evangeline". I took a few random photos the other day and when I was looking at them I realized that they were all very soft and creamy - of course that could be because most of my house is soft and creamy. :) They show a few of my recent finds - a French Provincial chair with beautiful tufted upholstery, a French Provincial dresser in ivory and gold, a gorgeous antique mirror which I painted cream, and more! "Marie Antoinette" "Evangeline" I am sharing with: Make it Pretty Monday
"grainy pictures falling on quiet hearts" ~Kylie Johnson 'Count Me The Stars The weekend was so warm and then this morning I woke up and the air was cool and the sky was misty and grey. Such a change! I didn't mind so much though - today feels like a quiet, peaceful day. Last week my Mum did some painting in her room and there were sheets of plastic over everything. I happened to be wandering with my camera and started playing with the light and the sheets until I had a group of photos that I thought looked very dreamy and mysterious. Sometimes when I look at them it seems like the room is underwater or that everything is frozen in time waiting for people to come home. I have also included a suitably dreamy fairytale drawing. I hope you like looking at the fruits of my misty afternoon... Drawing by Jennelise
"Can words describe the fragrance of the very breath of spring?" ~Neltje Blanchan I popped into a grocery store yesterday to get something for lunch and there were beautiful bouquets of tulips sitting in pails everywhere! I tried to ignore them and I couldn't! Two little bundles had to come home with me. I cut them and put them in a tall stemmed crystal glass. I love how they have brightened the house - especially since the view from the windows has been a little grey and even (horror of horrors) a bit snowy. Oh well. Somewhere there are tulips growing and they have come to stay with me...
"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening." ~Coco Chanel Why do we love french things? For me it is almost an obsession! French antiques, french decor, french fashion, books, music, photographs, buildings, street lamps, food, and the unmistakable presence of french femininity - all of these things fascinate me! If I round the corner of a shop and standing before me is a piece of furniture with rare curved lines and gold detail I know immediately that it is french. Nothing else comes close to the beauty of french antiques and decor. My Mum and I are constantly on the hunt for these treasures! This summer my Mum happened (completely by chance in one of those extraordinary and thrilling moments of discovery) upon an incredible french piece. A beautiful cabinet on tall legs with gorgeous gold designs all over it's perfect creamy surface! We were in raptures! I have been working on this little photoshoot for awhile - never quite convinced that I have perfectly captured how pretty our french room looks now. I added a few things for the pictures like my beautiful white chair with the GORGEOUS ruffled throws from Shabby Fufu, the small flower back chair, the antique gold frame, french china, and drippy crystal candelabra. Ici, c'est notre beau français chambre! I am linking with: What's It Wednesday Tuesday Treasures

"November comes And November goes With the last red berries And the first white snows. With night coming early, And dawn coming late, And ice in the bucket And frost by the gate. The fires burn And the kettles sing, And earth sinks to rest Until next spring." ~Clyde Watson One day the sun was shining, the leaves were falling in little circling eddies, and you hardly needed a coat to go outside. I went to sleep in a fall dream and woke up to a heavily filtered light, grey and soft, through my window. When I teased back the curtain what did I find?…Snow, snow, falling snow and now suddenly overnight winter has come! I meant to take a photo for you that first day but the snow made me melancholy and somehow taking its picture seemed like giving it permission to be there - which I most certainly did not. At any rate the temperature is dipping and more snow is coming and the only good thing about it is that it means CHRISTMAS IS COMING!! Probably not what everyone wants to hear just yet but I am definitely starting to get in the mood. I have made a goal for November that I will try to take more photos and post more frequently. This week I wandered around the house making little vignettes and rediscovering the things my camera can do (it's amazing how quickly you forget). I hope you like these few pictures! I am also going to try listing things in the store quite frequently this month. Here is the first little batch of goodies and there are some real treasures here so be sure to have a look! "We do not need magic to transform our world. We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already. We have the power to imagine better." ~J. K. Rowling This has been my pet project for the past six weeks and I am very excited to show you! My favorite holiday has always been Christmas but my younger sister lives for Halloween. She starts planning her costume in July and can change her mind up to three or four times always looking fabulous when the day actually arrives. This year I found myself getting caught up in her planning - looking at pictures on the web, items in online stores, artwork, and movies until I was struck with my own inspiration to draw a collection of costumes of my own! The collection includes costumes for a: Vampire, Ghost, Witch, Princess, Queen of Hearts, Mad Hattress, Ballerina, Mermaid, Fairy Queen, and Masquerade Ball. I have given each drawing a name and I would love to hear from you which costume would be your choice if they could be real! Have fun! "Just living is not enough,... one must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower." ~Hans Christian Andersen I have been working on this post for a little while now. So many people over the past year or so have asked me about the ribbon roses that are displayed in a great many of my photographs that I thought it was time to do another feature. When I first began this blog I did a post about the beautiful Meadow Street site and the incredible handmade ribbon flowers and accessories for sale there. My Mum and I have become quite addicted to them and together have amassed a stunning collection. These gorgeous flowers are sewn with beautiful %100 silk fabric and then hand-texturized! They are truly too beautiful for words! Available on the site there are the silk hand painted flowers, french hand-dyed flowers, velvet and burlap flowers, pansies, poinsettias, lace flowers, jewelry, gorgeous vintage style tussie mussies, and more! I have taken some pictures of my Mum's and my combined collection of roses (honestly they are ALL over the house! On lampshades, pillows, dresses, in cups and on trays - literally EVERYWHERE!). I hope you enjoy the pictures! We love Meadow Street so much! I am linking with: Pink Saturday Masterpiece Monday Drawing by Jennelise Roses in photographs are all handmade by Meadow Street
"Oh, Spring is surely coming, Her couriers fill the air; Each morn are new arrivals, Each night her ways prepare; I scent her fragrant garments, Her foot is on the stair." ~John Burroughs It's no secret that I love pink. I like all shades of pink too: soft pinks in the home and bright pinks in my fashion. I grew up in a room that had the palest pink walls and a bright pink carpet. To this day when I see a picture anywhere that has touches of pink in it - whether they be in the decor, on a dress, or even a shade of lipstick - I am instantly drawn to it. I'm not the only one! Last week my little two year old niece was opening a present and when she pulled away the wrapping my Mum said "It's a pink dress!" and she gasped and exclaimed "That's my colour!". Obviously we start the indoctrination early in my family. :) Nothing is more exciting for me though than to find something vintage in my favourite hue. I used to work at a local antique shop and the owners, my employers at the time, are wonderful friends of my family. They sent me pictures last week of a set of antique French plates that they had just unpacked for their store. Pale blush coloured plates with ornate scalloped edges, heavy gold, and roses. Could there be anything more perfect I ask you? I certainly didn't think so and rushed over to see them. Yes, you guessed it, they ended up coming home with me! The set was very large so I gave a couple plates to my Mum (who shares my obsession) and I have even listed one in my Etsy shop! These are a few pictures of where some of my beautiful plates are now being displayed. I just love them! The curvy venetian mirror was a find from an antique sale back in November that I have only just managed to unpack and hang. I think it is so glamorous. :) I am sharing with: Make It Pretty Monday
"Summer has filled her veins with light and her heart is washed with noon." ~C. Day Lewis I always find that summer disappears in a blur. Every day is so full and there is always a list of activities that you want to get to! A trip to the beach, a picnic in the park, saturday morning strolls, an afternoon at the pool, a drive out of town - and then there is the longing for summer rest and relaxation. Before you know it the breezes are cooling and your summer dreams are flitting away with the green of the leaves. I wanted to take advantage of the warmth and the light yesterday so I went outside and took a few impromptu photographs. I don't actually like photographing myself - which is why you rarely see me here on my blog! I hope you enjoy these few dreamy summer garden pictures and that you are making the most of your summer dreams! I am sharing with: What's It Wednesday
"Books are the quietest and most constant friends; they are the most accessible and wisest counsellors, and the most patient of teachers." ~Charles W. Eliot 1896 After an incredibly busy weekend it is nice to have a day to relax a little before another busy week starts. I went out with my Mum for a little while, and got out my camera since I haven't had time to take too many pictures lately, and then relaxed with a few of my favorite decorating books. I had forgotten how pretty they are and decided to share some pictures with you. These books are the ones that inspire me and give me new ideas for decorating, art, and photography. I hope you enjoy browsing through these few pages - I never get tired of looking at them! "I must have flowers, always, and always." ~Claude Monet Spring cleaning is underway and I have been tidying and sorting - moving things here and there and I thought while everything was out I would take some photos! It all looked so pretty spread out on the dining room table. You all know how much I love antique china. This is a collection of mostly Limoges china all painted with pink roses (of course!). I love the soft colours and the pretty shapes. European china, especially Limoges and Prussian, is all so delicately crafted. I am always on the hunt for that special piece! "To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough that you want to enhance its beauty, you want to bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it. " ~Osho I have been teasing my new workspace for a couple months now and finally have some pictures to share with you! I was married in July and moved into my new home with my husband. My new studio is a small light filled room upstairs that I painted ivory. I am still working on replacing the baseboards and painting the door trims but I have decorated my space with all of my favourite things. I purchased a curtain rod with beautiful pale blush pink mercury glass finials from Pottery Barn Kids and long tulle style curtains with a diamond embroidered pattern from Bed Bath and Beyond. My little bookcase and my desk are from Ikea. I found the sweet vintage dresser at an antique sale and replaced the top drawer knobs with pink glass ones from Anthropologie. My French vanity is another vintage find as is the upholstered chair which I had painted white with gold details and recovered in a beautiful ivory fabric. The gorgeous ornate antique frame in cream with brushed gold I found at an antique show in the summer and had a mirror put in for above my desk. I brought my chandelier with me and it completes my room. The stunning Bella Notte Olivia lace throw was a very special gift from my Mum and I believe the very pale pink colour is called "Pearl". This room is never not filled with light and I love working here! I can't wait to see what new ideas I come up with in this pretty space!
"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate." ~Oprah Winfrey I have been right down in bed sick with a very bad cold for the past week. Not fun! It is my Mum's birthday today though and sick or not we are celebrating! I took a few quick pictures of the presents I wrapped for her in spring pastels as well as my hasty decorations. My sister had the most beautiful little book made for her with all of the photos from last year and I know she will love it! I made her one of my ribbon flower necklaces in pink. I hope you are all well and happy!
"Is it possible to love the past and live in contemporary comfort? Yes, these rooms reply, most certainly yes." ~Claire Whitcomb I mentioned the changes I made to my room a little while ago and promised pictures of the finished result. I decided that I wanted my room to look a little less disconnected - it happens sometimes that I like so many different things that when they are put together the overall look is a little jumbled. I realized that I wanted there to be more coordination and elegance. I moved my pretty painted pieces out and brought in the grander natural finish of the pieces my Mother has given me: the burled vanity and pretty upholstered chair. My bookcase was instantly claimed by my sister who has I think three or four already (but insists you can never have TOO many bookcases and miraculously fit my little yellow one in with no difficulty). I also replaced the nouveau style iron mirror above my antique nightstand with a fantastic mirror from Paris my Mum discovered for me at an antique shop. The vitrine is the same wood finish as the vanity and nightstand, and holds my collection of pink and green french and european china. The painting of a rose on a book is by my favorite artist and good friend Helen Flont. There are also a few Meadowstreet roses (of course - because I can't go more than three feet without looking at one). I hope you enjoy looking through the pictures. I took quite a few because I am so happy with my new bedroom and there are lots of detail shots. :) Drawing by Jennelise
"Easter spells out beauty, the rare beauty of new life." ~S.D. Gordon I want to wish everyone a beautiful and happy Easter! Spring really is around the corner - today I almost managed without a jacket! Walking around the local farmer's market I loved to see all of the flowers for sale in their little pails and the Easter treats laid out in their brightly colored wrappings. I hope that your easter weekend is filled with family and fond memories. Here are a few spring colors for you to enjoy! ...
