Hi and happy Wednesday! Recently I've become more and more drawn to art journaling. Don't get me wrong, I still very much enjoy scrapbooking and cardmaking, but working on an art journal page brings me so much pleasure. It's my creative playground. Very often I include mixed media elements on my pages. I play and experiment, and feel that the creative process means so much more for me than the outcome. This is a page I finished recently. I started with creating texture on the background with texture paste and a stencil. Once dry I misted the page with water and sprinkled blue and yellow bister on the page. The interesting thing about working with bister is that you cannot completely (and sometimes at all!) control the process and the flow of colours. Watching the colours take their own paths is almost meditative :) After drying the background I stamped more pattern with Visible Image 'Ripped Fishnet' stamp. As inks I used yellow and brown Archival. The sentiments were stamped using VI 'Imagine Dream Inspire' stamp, and the yellow hearts were die-cut using my new 'Heartfelt' Sizzix/Tim Holtz die. White dots are punched with a standard office punch, and the little chipboard grids in the two corners were some leftover pieces I had on my crafting table. I'm really happy how this turned out! For more information on the stamp set I used please click on the picture below: Wishing you a wonderful day, Hugs,
Allow me to ask you a simple question. Have you ever thought about death? Go ahead, take a moment and really think about it. Picture yourself laying on a hospital bed, knowing that you only have a few more days…

Immersed in dreamlike surroundings, figures interact with nature and participate in enigmatic rituals in embroideries by Michelle Kingdom (previously). The Los Angeles-based artist continues to explore what she describes as “psychological landscapes,” portraying a diverse range of figures in ambiguous activities and settings that are intricately composed from thread. Drawing on the rich traditions of needlework, she takes a more freeform approach to the medium in which stitching becomes a tool for sketching, honoring its history while subtly subverting convention. A recap of my journey with my One Little Word (OLW 2014) for 2014 {BE} for the month of January. Focusing on this word is already having an impact on my perspective. This past month I've tried to just be still and know God and simply rest in that knowledge. Not always an easy task for one who is independent and leans toward doing things "her way". I selected a bird as my symbol for my word this year. The idea of the bird comes from a passage in Matthew (6:25-34) where Jesus speaks of how the birds do worry about their needs and the Father takes care of them. He says, "Are you not much more valuable than they?" (vs. 26) In The Message version it says that the birds are "careless in the care of God" and that is how I see this word "BE". So the birds help me remember to just "be" in His presence and care. As I wrote earlier in the month, I am including my OLW 2014 art journaling in my Documented Life journal and I am also working on a collage a week for the year. My first collage of the year introduced my word. Collage week 1: My OLW {BE} My word' defined, why I chose it and intentions for the year. My symbol for my word ~ a bird. Collage week 2 Collage week 3 I'm only slightly behind as I have not finished my collage for week 4. I have enjoyed the insight that has come as I have prayed and journaled this month ~ so much more than I have shared here. I'm sure it will surface in time as I continue to use Ali Edwards' OLW prompts and challenges as a guide to help me stay focused on my word throughout the year.

A 8" x 8" canvas print, made from the ORIGINAL PAINTING 'Awakening ' by Holly Sierra, Painted in Acrylics on a Fine Belgian Linen Canvas. AWAKENING: “Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray” Rumi... Deep in the night sky Ursa Major, the Bear constellation- It hovers above the drummer and the gorgeous leaping animals, illuminating the darkness. The pounding rhythm demands we AWAKEN... For that is what we seek, on our human journey and inevitably find dwells deep within us, already. It's awaiting us; there at the end of each pain fraught journey. Sometimes it's but a distant vibration until we allow the light to shine on our true desire. As the drummer marches forward, representatives from the 3 elements are by her side... The Turtle from the sea,Rabbits from the earth and the Birds from the sky. She is adorned with a crown of feathers and jewels and moves forward within the pounding rhythm. Printed on archival quality canvas, the image measures 8”x 8” and is stretched and is stretched and ready for hanging. The sides are painted so no need to frame (although framing is certainly an option) Print is labeled, signed and dated on the back by the artist
