Heesoo Lee has spent years carefully layering blades of grass, pine trees, and cherry blossoms to construct botanic entanglements that crawl across ceramic mugs and bowls. Inspired by seasonal woodlands and aspen forests, the Montana-based artist recreates bright pockets of landscapes that capture small motions, like falling fronds or rustling branches. “There is movement in trees, but it is slow and subtle, a leaf in wind, the slow growth of new leaves in spring,” she says. Firstly I have to thank lilfishstudios - www.lilfishstudios.blogspot.com/ - for the inspiration and idea of felting in a jar. Her wonderful terrariums inspired me to recreate a cross section of planet earth, from the molten core to the green grass, complete with grazing sheep. Basically layers of wool, with a few bits and bobs of wooly leftovers added.

Embark on a visual odyssey to the Scottish coast with this evocative print capturing the essence of Camusdarach Beach amidst a tempestuous dance of elements. In an arresting display of abstract sophistication, the artwork melds emotive strokes with a vivid palette, conjuring the wild Scottish landscape as a tumultuous weather front converges upon it. The composition is brilliantly divided into layers that encapsulate land, sea, and sky. At the base, brushstrokes in hues of ivory, soft yellow, and pale blue suggest a stretch of sandy shore touched by dapples of sunlight. Striking green accents intimate the coastal vegetation that bears witness to the relentless sea breeze. The midsection gives way to an expanse of tranquil blues and greys, representing the rolling waters of the ocean, which, through abstract interpretation, merge seamlessly into the shore. Small touches of coral and crimson colour are glimpsed within the waters, hints of the sun's reflection or perhaps the rich twilight that heralds the approach of evening. Dominating the scene, the sky looms with an intense energy. Broad, dynamic swathes of white and grey collide amidst an atmospheric backdrop, their forms swirling like the gathering clouds that promise impending meteorological drama. The stark contrast of the dark, looming cloud forms against the brilliant flashes of white and pale gold evokes the fleeting and dramatic illumination of a storm-lashed coastline. Capturing the sublime power of nature, this print from the 'Scottish Beaches' collection offers a piece that is at once contemplative and invigorating, a harmonic clash of calm and chaos that will deliver a statement of moody elegance to any space it inhabits.

Immerse yourself in the splendour and spectacle of the Scottish Highlands, as this evocative abstract print captures the essence of Ben Vorlich, a revered Munro by the tranquil waters of Loch Lomond. The artwork presents a masterfully interwoven palette, where dusky pinks and fiery oranges bleed into the land and reflect upon the mirrored surface of the loch, suggesting the ethereal beauty of a Highland sunrise or sunset. The enigmatic mountains stand tall, cloaked in layers of textured brushwork that convey both their rugged grandeur and the ephemeral play of light and shadow cast across their peaks and valleys. Wisps of serene blues and moody greys mingle above, suggesting a sky brimming with movement, a hint of the ever-changing weather that breathes life into the landscape. A bold yet harmonious collision of colour and shape invites the observer to lose themselves in this contemplative and dynamic interpretation of one of Scotland's most cherished views. This abstract representation eschews realism, instead offering a dreamscape where the physical features of Ben Vorlich are deconstructed into their elemental forms, igniting the imagination and allowing the viewer to conjure their own personal connection to the land. This print, part of our 'Scottish Munros' collection, serves not just as a piece of art, but as an homage to Scotland’s raw and untamed beauty, encapsulating the timeless allure of its highlands in strokes that resonate with passion and reverence for the natural world. Whether sparking memories of adventures past or inspiring dreams of journeys yet to come, this print promises to be a conversation starter and a striking addition to any space that appreciates the intersection of art and nature.

Yandee is an Aboriginal name for York Gum. It’s sweet on the front palate, with a very fine acid line and lots of high notes. This comes from Nanda People’s land, just north and inland from Kalbarri. Aromatic, with delicate flavours and refreshing acidity driving a long palate layered with phenolic complexity, this will match equally well with lighter dishes such as raw seafood or roast chicken with tarragon.

Finland has a long tradition of burning the top layer of forest underbrush after logging, to replenish the ground for new saplings. Finland's largest forest land owners plan to burn dozens of hectares this year, to make up for recent rainy summers, as environmentalists and certification programmes call for the practice to be revived in the name of better biodiversity.

Located in a busy shopping center in Prague, this twisting and reflective sculpture depicting the head of writer Franz Kafka is the latest kinetic artwork by controversial Czech artist David Cerny. Installed in 2014, the enormous mirrored bust is comprised of 42 independently driven layers of stainless steel and weighs in at some 45 tons. The piece brilliantly reveals Kafka’s tortured personality and unrelenting self doubt that plagued him his entire life. The layering of objects is a common motif for Cerny who built a similar rotating head that also functions as a fountain titled Metalmorphosis. More
