This is a 12" x 18" poster of a series of watercolor lichens and mosses. With thousands of species of both moss and lichen in the world, I have limited my illustrations here to 12 common genera of each. I have drawn a particular species for each of these 12 for illustration purposes, but the genus of each illustration can usually be found on more than one continent and even in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. This poster has been professionally printed onto lovely matte 100 lb card stock and is initialed and dated on the reverse. ★ Frame not included ★ The generous top and bottom margins are perfect for framing using a wooden poster hanger (which also makes it very easy to change out posters every now and then). This listing does NOT include the wooden, magnetic poster hanger used in the photo. Your poster will be carefully packaged in a kraft tube for mailing. ★ Frame not included ★ I do my best to portray colors accurately, however different monitors (and cameras) will vary in how they display colors. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SIGN UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER AND GET 10% OFF: https://twigandmoth.myflodesk.com/newsletter ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ***Purchase does not transfer copyright. Many outdoor photographers will often see a great opportunity for an interesting foreground when they come across a patch of moss (as you can see from the images below). But moss or lichen can also be great subjects themselves. These 50 photos of moss and lichen show what can be done with a little imagination when you're in the great outdoors. Lichen dyes date back to the 16th century, according to the Web site, Elizabethan Era. These mossy, rock-dwelling plants were a cheap source of green dye for both rich and poor, enabling everyone to have colorful clothes.

(80/365) Best viewed Large. Various Lichens growing on an Apple tree in our garden. They are such intricate interesting structures, a composite organism made up of a fungus, usually an ascomycete, that grows symbiotically with an alga or a cyanobacterium and characteristically forms a crustlike or branching growth on rocks or tree trunks. Teloschistes chrysophthalmus (the orange lichen) and possibly Ramalina complanata (the green cuplike lichen), and also possibly Ramalina celastri (longer green leafy lichen). Cautionary note: the Ramalina IDs are my guesses based on photos in Brodo et al.'s guidebook, and may very well be wrong.
