深い山の中の静かな川岸に、自然と建築とが溶け合った状態をつくろうと考えた。川と住宅との間には水をはり、蓮を植え、住まいが蓮池を媒介にして川へ、そして対岸の森へと連続していく状態を作ろうと考えた。 建築自体の構成は穴を基本としている。建築は2棟に分割され、その間に生じた孔の形状をした大きなテラスが、裏側の森と対岸の森とをつなぐ役割をはたしている。壁面もまた無数の孔としてデザインされている。石という重量感のある素材を用いながら、風の吹き抜けるような軽やかな壁面を作った。20cm×60cm、厚さ30mmの薄いトラバーチンの板を8㎜×16mmのフラットバーに吊るし、チェッカーボード状のポーラスなパターンを構成するディテールとすることで、石でありながら紙のように、そして蓮の花弁のように軽やかな壁を作ることができた。
