Over time, a beautiful art collection can lose some of its visual impact due to dust, cobwebs, dirt, water stains and other wear and tear. Fortunately, there are a few strategies for cleaning paintings on canvas that will not damage the paint and will keep an art collection looking its best.
Using a collaborative oil painting process, Cara Thayer and Louie Van Patten create artworks that explore the poignant power of the human touch. In these works, hands and fingers are the protagonists — they have the power to make us squirm with discomfort and insecurity or long for a gentle caress. Thayer and Van Patten's compositions zoom in on various details of the body, presenting a form of intimacy that can be sensual and unsettling at the same time. Take a look at some of their artworks after the jump.
Artist Brad Kunkle lives and works in New York where he paints these extraordinary, dreamlike scenes of women swathed and shrouded in layers of leaves. The leaves often form the backdrop of his images functioning as water, wind, blankets, earth or perhaps all of the above. Via Arcadia Fine Art: Brad was searching for an unnatural quality in his paintings, and it was ironically discovered by reducing his processes to the elements of painting he felt came most natural to him. More than $850 million — that's the estimated value of the legendary Mona Lisa painting. Nevertheless, one of the most famous paintings and an iconic Renaissance art piece is not for sale. Under French heritage law, an artwork declared priceless is prohibited from being bought or sold. Although you might not be able to take the painting home, you can still take a glimpse at the iconic smiling lady in the Louvre for less than the cost of a meal at Mickey D's.
“I trace the origins of these luminescent forms back to the depths from which they emerge and bring them vividly to life.”

Adam Lupton holds his Bachelors of Communication Design from Emily Carr University or Art and Design, having graduated in May 2010. As a Vancouverite, Lupton draws his interest from that which he has known his entire life: the vast austerity of the matrix through the city. Lupton’s broad and wide-ranging interests provides the root of his visually artistic ideation. Having a keen interest in sociology and psychology, he combines his passion for popular culture, typography, philosophy, science/religion, and society to form the basis of his descriptive works. Lupton’s gaze explores psychological and sociological struggles in modern society. Painting in oil, blurring lines between realism and expressionism helps Lupton probe the internal and external dialogue faced in his multi-directional narratives. His recent series, “What’s In Store for me in the Direction I Don’t Take?”, pits moments of choice against the visualization of their outcomes: temporal planes coexisting on a singular surface. With the notion of quantum mechanics having every possible outcome to a situation realized in splintered universes, he paints figures with varied levels of connection to reality. When every single direction exists in varying parallel lives, our process of free will as well as concepts of space, time, fate, and self come into question.

INÈS LONGEVIAL
The troupe of wild animals in Bruno Pontiroli’s paintings contort their bodies into backbends and handstands that would rival even the most accomplished gymnast. A wrinkly hippo balances on its tongue, a tiger arches its torso into a 90-degree angle, and a hyena rotates its hind legs in the air. The French artist (previously) notes that he begins the bizarre artworks with easily-recognized animals that he then shapes “like the way a child plays with modeling clay or a building set for instance,” morphing a simple depiction of a nimble lion or hare into a peculiar new reality. The art, fearfully esoteric and influenced by its creator’s séances and spiritualism, matches a present mood of restless searching, Peter Schjeldahl writes.
