This clay sculpture represents a woman from the Tuxtepec region of northern Oaxaca. She is wearing a Mazatec huipil from Jalapa de Diaz and holding a pineapple on her shoulder. In the famous Guelaguetza fiestas of Oaxaca, which feature traditional dances from the eight regions of the state, the Tuxtepec region (Papaloapan) is represented by dancers performing La Danza de Flor de Pina (The Dance of the Pineapple Flower). The dancers wear colorful Mazatec and Chinantec huipiles and dance holding pineapples. This wonderful figure was created by artist Enedina Vasquez from Atzompa, Oaxaca, Mexico
