I’m obsessing over British artist Sophie Smallhorn‘s vibrantly colored sculptures. Made from aluminum, urethane board and acrylic and covered in saturated cellulose paints, Sophie’s three dimensional sculptures somehow ignite an urge in me to reach…

The Pic family has played an integral part in the history of French cuisine after Pic’s great-grandmother opened the first restaurant, L’Auberge du Pin, over 100 years ago, moving the restaurant to Valence in 1934 where Maison Pic still stands today.
Sophie Calle uses the mediums of photography, video, film, books, text, and performance to pursue her sociological and autobiographical investigations. Her work often incorporates elements of voyeurism, surveillance, and personal narrative to explore the nature of love, intimacy, violence and death. Many of her works juxtapose writing and photography to question the dichotomies of truth […]

With her otherworldly geometric designs, Sophie Taeuber-Arp was an innovative original. A new exhibition explores the boundless creativity.
This is a hand printed linocut portrait of French mathematician, physicist and philosopher Marie-Sophie Germain (1776 – 1831), known as Sophie. She taught herself mathematics using books in her father's library and by corresponding with leading mathematicians of her day, including Lagrange, Legendre and Gauss, initially using the pseudonym Monsieur LeBlanc. Her work on elasticity theory won her the grand prize from the Paris Academy of Sciences. Her trailblazing work on Fermat's Last Theorem set out a strategy and framework for mathematicians pursuing the problem for hundreds of years. She was denied a formal mathematics education or professional standing due to her sex, but Gauss, the leading mathematician of her day argued she deserved an honourary degree (though it was never granted). The print alludes to her work on elasticity theory with Chladni figures in lavender and the words are from her own manuscript on Fermat's Last Theorem. Each print is 11" by 14" and printed by hand on ivory Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper.
