Over a couple of months, I've bookmarked some cool outdoor installations/ landscape art/ environmental art. I thought I'd include them all in one big post. No need too elaborate too much on why or what...sometimes art just is... First up is 'Colored Pencils' by Jonna Pohjalainen. You can find more pictures of her work on environmentalart.net, a whole site dedicated to Finnish art of this genre. Is it a big thing in Finland?? I love the whimsy of this one created by Mehmet Ali Usyal for last year's 5 Seasons Festival in Chaudfontaine, Belgium. My favorite has to be a series of nest-like outdoor installations by artist Patrick Dougherty, created through the span of his career. He has built more than 200 such sculptures around the World. I was amazed by the sheer size of his work which requires "sticks by the truckload". Its also fascinating how he managed to make organic forms, in natural environments, using a basic of-the-earth material; look so other worldly.
The Easter bunny may have come and gone, but a classic garden icon can still be found this Spring - bunnies in the garden - whether a real rabbit, a stone sculpture hare, or as an animal topiary. Stone bunnies, (rabbits / hares) were first noted originating in the stories of Pompeii (read from exert in The Natural History of Pompeii) , so it's only fitting to see these stone sculptures strategically placed in a springtime garden. The art of creating topiaries has also lead to rabbits being sculpted from boxwood hedges for example in a garden, or from grass turf on an armature. Even the Channel Gardens at New York City's Rockefeller Center display one of the city's best Spring gardens, with a 12-foot-tall topiary of an Easter bunny made with ivy and moss, which is on display now through April 19. Both real and faux sculptures and topiaries can be purchased online or in home decor stores to add a little whimsy to your own garden this spring... This regal rabbit was featured at Traditional Home - Garden Retreats Cast-iron bunnies in Marjolein Bastin's garden at marjoleinbastin.com Proud Hare Garden Statue - Wind & Weather British Artist Stanley DOVE - Pied Piper Hare 12 Bunnies - Bronze sculptures by artist Yabuuchi Satoshi Adorable - Rabbit Watch by Canis Major, via Flickr Anne Hathaway's Cottage & Gardens- perfect for this Tudor style home... These terra-cotta-bunnies were available at gardeners.com, but I'm sure you can find something similar at a local nursery, garden center, or home decor shop - try also consignment shops. Great Hare by Mary Catherine Newcomb - an 8-foot long grassy sculpture, using turf over armature. Topiary animals, like this rabbit, can be grown on a topiary frame... Here's a link for How To Make Animal Topiaries Besides these bunny topiaries being created for your garden, faux ones can be used too, indoors, for a Spring entry vignette - or for next year's Easter table... Dear Lillie blog - Easter Bunny Table And now for the pièce de résistance for bunnies in the garden... The Easter Bunny Topiaries - Channel Gardens - Rockefeller Center - New York City... See these and more pics by following their hashtag in social media #ROCKCENTER - Plus also view this slide show at nbc.com And as for real bunnies in your Spring Garden, here are some tips on How to Keep Rabbits Out of Your Garden, including a list of Rabbit-Resistant Plants... Happy Spring Gardening! Thanks for stopping by!

Some of these works are permanent and were officially commissioned by their cities while others are more guerilla-style urban pieces that are intended to be ephemeral and make only brief appearances.
Whether the figures are carried towards the sky or just holding on to umbrellas, sailing downward is up to the viewer to decide. ‘Slight Uncertainty’ the installation by Czech artist Michal Trpák is called and the viewer can’t be quite be sure of what is happening here. Trpák installs his sculptures almost exclusively in public […]

This totally tubular work of public sculpture is called Aeolus, named after the god of the four winds in Greek mythology. Aeolus is designed to play a sweet sound every time the wind blows, because it's made out of 310 polished steel tubes attached to an arch that helps channel the breeze into nature's melody. When I was at the Celebration of Fine Art last Friday, I enjoyed meeting Terrell Powell and seeing his whimsical art works. This colorful tower of birds made me smile. Terrell told me about a project he's hosting to create colorful benches to be placed in children's hospitals or doctors offices. It's called the Children's Art Bench Project. Terrell's art pieces are sure to put a smile on everyone's face.

The Clemson Clay Nest was a public land art installation by Bavarian artist Nils-Udo that was constructed in the botanical gardens at Clemson University in South Carolina in 2005. The nest was built with the assistance of numerous students and other volunteers using 80 tons of pine logs harvested from the local Oconee County pine plantation and hundreds of bamboo stocks that were carefully organized into a circular structure dug in gardens rich red clay.
