Afte the Blessed Virgin, St. Philomena, the Wonderworker was St. John Vianney's favorite saint. This is my favorite image of her.
Olga of Kyiv is today recognised as one of Eastern Orthodoxy’s greatest saints – and her bloodthirsty tale is one of defiance and vengeance, and worth remembering today.

All Saints, Norton Mandeville, Essex I cycled on through Shellow Bowells (I kid you not) and onwards, because the next church I wanted to visit was very remote, and the route to it very convoluted. First, I headed through the pleasant village of Willingales, plural because it was originally split into two parishes, and the two parish churches of Willingale Spain and Willingale Doe share a churchyard. But I visited these two about 18 months ago, so I cycled straight past and then through tiny, winding lanes for about three miles without seeing another soul other than another solitary cyclist headed in the opposite direction.. Eventually, I came to a turn off which led me slowly downhill for about a mile and a half to a dead end where there is a farm and All Saints, Norton Mandeville. Open. Utterly delightful little Essex church sitting high on a bluff looking to the oilseed rape fields dropping away to the south. The setting is a bit like Strethall to the north, but the church more typically small Essex with a wooden bellcote. Several paths meet here, and the church is obviously left open all the time. Very well-kept interior, star piece is an ornate harmonium. Church of the day. The church is actually in the parish of High Ongar, but to get to there by road would have meant a bike ride of at least three miiles, and almost six miles if I wanted to avoid the busy Chelmsford to Harlow road (which I did). However, a bridle way led south-west of the church which was (just) good enough to cycle, so I took it and in little over a mile I was at High Ongar.
Saint Cecilia Print Picture This is an interpretation of St. Cecilia, patroness of musicians, by an unknown artist. She is depicted playing the organ with her angel protectors hovering above her. The picture is 8" wide x 10" tall and printed on cardstock with satin finish. Except for the serial number in the bottom margin, the print is unsigned. The verso is blank. The picture was created and produced in Milan, Italy, by a religious publisher whose world renowned paintings have been the most recognizable images in the Catholic industry. The artwork will be a nice addition to your collection of devotional prints. It is ready to frame and can be mounted in a traditional way with glass. It can be displayed on your altar or in your sacred space as meditation aid. Our Lady's Mantle watermark shown on image is not on the actual print. Did you know that there is a patron saint for everything. Animals, alcoholics, even serial killers have their patron saints in a system that originated in Roman times and is as old as Christianity.

Last week, Lorri asked me if I had any archangel coloring pages that she could use for a homeschool party. I was planning on making some, so I bumped up my production schedule to get her a St. Michael to use. The Professor chose this picture as the most manly one we could find (with the exception of the girly hair~ his words). Well, this weekend, I worked on Gabriel and Raphael too and let me tell you, I think I'm going cross-eyed! Those pages were probably the hardest ones I've done yet. Lots of little lines. I tried to give myself a bit of a reprieve by not doing full bodies. And for an example of what happens when I leave my comfort zone, take a look at Raphael. Not exactly like the original. I thought St. Raphael was usually seen with a fish, not a child and The Professor said something about a staff which my brain translated as "spear" until well into the black lining process when The Professor decided to inform me that it is usually a walking staff. Oh well. Not starting over! No way. No how. Anyway, I hope you enjoy them. The Professor has already claimed St. Michael. I am betting Sunshine and Shortcake both choose Gabriel and that leaves Raphael to endure BigBoy's colorful scribbling. Serves him right.
