Fifty years ago, the Beach Boys released 'Pet Sounds.' The music was iconic, and so was the cover -- a photo of the band feeding a bunch of ruminants at the San Diego Zoo.
Avalon's biggest and most well-known hit was quite a departure from his previous Top Ten hits 'Dede Dinah' and 'Ginger Bread.' Both of those songs were up tempo numbers with very juvenile lyrics. 'I'll Wait For You,' a #15 hit in October of '58, was a gentle ballad, but with very teen-oriented lyrics. With 'Venus,' Avalon showcased a more sophisticated and mature sound, one that appealed to both teenagers and adults.

Before being drawn to the Zef-side and morphing into Die Antwoord, Ninja and Yolandi were a couple of writers and actors known by their birth names Watkin Tudor Jones and Anri Du Toit. While not as conceptually outrageous as the ultra-freaky and fabulous Die Antwoord, they still managed to create some surreally weird videos and performance pieces for their multi-media project known as Max Normal. Here’s a faux documentary from 2004, Picnic, directed by “Waddy” Jones and starring Ms. Toit. On the surface, the intent of the film seems to want to present a warmhearted slice-of-life story showing viewers how important family reunions are, psychologically and emotionally. But in Picnic we don’t ever see the family actually bonding, we just hear the steady, chattering, drone of a young girl who is clearly living inside her own head, where memories have perhaps become ghosts. As the music on the soundtrack gets weirder and weirder, the disconnect between the subject and tone of the film takes on a mildly unsettling vibe that feels like a prelude to some bad shit. He was Superstar He was popular He was so exalted Because he had flair He was a virtuose Was a rock idol And everyone shouted: Come on and rock me Amadeus Back in 1985 Falco became the very first German artist to score a number one hit in the U.S., thanks to the popularity of "Rock Me Amadeus". He was already incredibly popular is Germany, Austria and all of the U.K. but it took this song to make him a household name state side. He never managed to repeat that initial success with any of his follow up albums. In 1998 Falco was reportedly working on a comeback when the sport utility vehicle that he was driving collided with a bus in the Dominican Republic. Falco died of his injuries and an autopsy later showed that he had a mix of alcohol and cocaine in his system at the time of the accident.
