Self-described “artist and destroyer” Graziano Locatelli has created an inventive take on bas-relief sculpture by building subway tile walls that shatter to reveal human forms. Some works contain subtle shifts and cracks that reveal their portraits, while other sculptures expose more fully-formed figures pushing through the tiles. In his pieces with distinct three dimensional figures, the bodies are cloaked in an anonymizing layer of white “fabric” that erases their faces and blends in with the white tiles. More

About John Garrett was raised in southern New Mexico by parents who were both educators. They instilled in him an appreciation for the handmade with their collections of Native American arts and crafts. He moved to Claremont, California, to attend college at Claremont Men’s College (now Claremont McKenna College.) Following his desire to make things by hand, he enrolled in a weaving class taught by Marion Stewart at Scripps College in 1970. His intrigue with the tools, systems and materials involved in weaving and other textile constructions led him to take other courses with Neda Al-Hilali a year later, also at Scripps. He did graduate work at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he studied with Bernard Kester and Vasa. Garrett has exhibited throughout the United States for over thirty years in hundreds of exhibitions, as well as in Europe, Africa and Asia. Garrett has worked simultaneously with two and three-dimensional formats to create his textile forms with a variety of materials. Visually unpredictable, his work may be woven, wrapped, plaited, riveted, painted, rusted, twined, nailed, stitched or tied. With an expansive repertoire of materials, each work of art is meticulously crafted, while achieving an energetic complexity; he moves gracefully from constructing wall pieces to baskets, breathing new life into discarded objects. Currently a full time studio artist, he teaches workshops on creativity and experimental basketry at schools nationwide. He was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts fellowships in 1983 and 1995 as well as elected a Fellow of the American Craft Council in 2010. In my work I am drawn to the processes of birth death and renewal What lies below the surface fascinates me and I try to capture the qualities of the unseen that express the sense of wonder that I feel in my daily existence I am attracted to glass because it can do everything that other sculptural media can in addition it offers an inner space and transmits light My subject matter includes babies animals and children as they embody the essence of vulnerability that is the underlying theme in my work Currently I am exploring metamorphosis as a topic and have been incorporating figures within figures in my pieces Within each glass figure there is a smaller figure seen through the surface of the glass I think of these pieces as souls each being pregnant with their own potential giving birth to new improved versions of themselves

About The Artwork The installation piece is based on an old Greenlandic legend based on the Mother of the Seas and the entanglement we create for ourselves as people if you don't look after her. The shells are symbolic clusters of our continuous movement and evolving and accepting our constantly changing circumstances. The work is made up of over 400 individually hand pinched shells, the shells are made in porcelain paperclay all of which are high-fired to 1235 degrees, some of the shells are glazed to create a play on light when it hits the shells. The shells are fed onto metal wire which are hung on a single hook to make the cluster. The piece is aprox 220cm long and about 40-50 cm in diameter Original Created:2022 Subjects:Abstract Materials:Ceramic Styles:3d SculptureAbstractContemporaryFine Art Mediums:CeramicClay Details & Dimensions Sculpture:Ceramic on Ceramic Original:One-of-a-kind Artwork Size:11.8 W x 90.6 H x 11.8 D in Frame:Not Framed Ready to Hang:Yes Packaging:Ships in a Crate Shipping & Returns Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments. using rope, glue and crystallized urea, japanese artist yasuaki onishi has used his trademark materials, mediums and applications in the creation of an immersive sculptural installation, 'vertical emptiness'.
Spanish sculptor David Moreno (previously) continues to blur the lines between two and three dimensions with his architectural artworks. Created using hundreds of steel rods and lengths of piano wire, Moreno’s sculptures take the shape of buildings, and his more recent works have ventured indoors, highlighting interior details like doorways and staircases. In 2017, the artist also created a large, immersive installation in the United Arab Emirates titled “Connecting Doors.” Moreno shares his work on Instagram and Behance. More

HEARD II - ceramic hand-built sculpture of nude woman with deer Adrian Arleo is a ceramic sculptor living outside Missoula, Montana. She studied Art and Anthropology at Pitzer College (B.A. 1983) and received her M.F.A. in ceramics from Rhode Island School of Design in 1986. Arleo was an Artist in Residence at Oregon College of Art and Craft in 1986-87, and at Sitka Center For Art and Ecology in 1987-88. For nearly thirty years, Arleo has focused her work on the human figure, often combining it with animal imagery, and other elements of the natural world. Some works allude to a relationship of understanding or connection between the human and animal realms. In others, human figures possess animal features in a way that reveals something hidden about the character or primal nature of the human.

‘Wolf Girl III’ by sculptor and artist Cynthia Consentino, 2011. Sculptor Cynthia Consentino hails from my state of birth Massachusetts, and is currently part of the Art Department staff at my mother’s alma mater of the University of Massachusetts. I hope Consentino’s students know how lucky they are to have such a talented (and rather wonderfully demented) mind at their disposal. To help illuminate my point Consentino’s ceramic series called “Exquisite Corpse” borrowed its title and played upon the concept from a collaborative poetry game played by members of the Surrealist movement. It contains curious pieces that incorporate the bodies of animals and people with sinister and strangely captivating results. And while we’re on the topic of sinister ceramics Consentino’s portfolio is full of characters who fall into precisely that category, such as menacing looking human/wolf hybrids, angry children as well as toddlers armed with weapons. According to an article on the artist from 2007, she was further inspired to mix-and-match her sculptures’ decidedly non-bianary gender compositions after reading a study that took on sexual stereotypes from the perspective of a five-year-old child. So instead of incorporating the heads (or bodies) of a predatory animal...

Irish sculptor Kevin Francis Gray works primarily with bronze and marble to create idealized figures draped with fabric in the style of Neoclassical or Baroque figurative sculptures. Though, unlike gods or royalty that one might expect to see rendered in such incredible detail, Gray instead creates anonymous depictions of regular individuals he encounters near his studio in London, often people struggling with addiction or other difficult, real-world issues. From an essay about Gray’s work by Rachel Wilf: The resulting works portray these subjects—often with personal histories marred by contemporary demons such as addiction—with dignity and importance, yet they also express a somber, contemplative quality emphasized by the artist’s consistent shrouding of his subject’s faces. Artist Chris Wood works with colored glass to create colorful, prism-like mazes and mandalas of light installed vertically on walls. Her most common material is dichroic (meaning ‘two color’) glass, a material invented by NASA in the 1950s that has a special optical coating meant to reflect certain wavelengths of light while letting others through. At some angles the glass appears completely reflective, somewhat like a mirror of gold. Wood has constructed a number of different glass, mirror, and other light installations which have been carefully documented on her website. More
