Going through old photos and cds over the weekend and I discovered some gems. The thing that was amazing was seeing the continuity of my work over a decade of making it.

Size: Height 12.6 High x 11.8 Width x 6.7 Deep Wise men of old told us that reality is both permanence and becoming. There are essential, immutable truths but there is also time which does not stop and to which we must adapt. The works in the Eternal Fluidity collection took their inspiration from this ancient wisdom to create an allegory of classicism that co-exists with innovation, of the primal that embraces the constant flow of change. This male torso is made following the tradition of classical sculpture. The finish in white matte porcelain enhances the perfect modeling and the control of anatomy. In contrast, the finish in silver luster that flows over the pieces expresses the duality between the old and the new, between permanence and change, between reason and emotion. It is the sign of our time, the message of the Eternal Fluidity collection. The New York-based artist turns back time for an exhibition of crystallised busts, friezes and sculptures at Galerie Perrotin in Paris
Does the world glitch like a bad video in front of you? Can you be sure that you’re experiencing reality? Maybe not after looking at the sculptures of Paul Kaptein. He carves real life visual glitches out of wood. His forms are ordinary, but warped in unsettling ways. They’re fascinating juxtapositions of old technology with new and fantasy with reality.Hypocrite Design interviewed Kaptein about his work. I found his answer about this business of art quite funny:How have you handled the busin...

And now, for a moment of Design Zen: a collection of the best of the best in book art. Here are five of our favorite creators breathing new life, interpretations and perspectives into a form (and often specific stories) we tend to view in the same dimensional sense every time. Regardless of how you feel about the action of deconstructing text and tome, it’s hard to ignore the beauty of these intricate designs. For more, dig deeper into the artists’ websites—their processes an
Nick Ervinck, a Belgian artist, creates studio sculptures and massive installations that take modern approaches to manipulating material and space. The artist’s work can distort the familiar or create something wholly new in this process. He uses surprising sources in crafting his imagery and textures, from organisms found in nature (both prehistoric and current) to inkblots, Japanese pop culture, and our own bodies.
I love reading as much as the next person (if the next person happens to be a bibliophile; if not, I love reading MORE than the next person). In any case, sometimes you want your love of books to trickle into other non-reading parts of your life, and here's how you can accomplish that.
This work is an example of Nevelson's early, small-scale abstract constructions that relied on found materials selected for their visual or emotional appeal. In her search for new materials Nevelson was drawn to wood, as opposed to bronze or marble. This choice reflected her past; her father was a woodcutter and lumberyard owner, and the organic material was a common presence throughout her childhood. The assembled rectilinear wooden blocks of this work present a unified exploration of vertical and horizontal axes, in a visual experiment with constructed forms that influenced her subsequent wall sculptures. However, the format of this work is still that of a conventional sculpture presented on a base, much like traditional, old master sculptures. While many of her later works were painted in monochromatic black, white, or gold because of the personal symbolism of these colors, Nevelson painted this work a bright green that she chose not to reprise in later sculptures. Louise Nevelson was born Kiev, Russia. Her family moved to the United States in 1905, and in 1920 she moved to New York City and began studying at the Art Students League in 1929. Using old pieces of wood, found objects, she constructed huge walls, enclosed box arrangements of complex and rhythmic abstract shapes. Her first one-woman show was at the Karl Nierendorf Gallery in NYC in 1941. She had solo exhibitions at the Norlyst and Nierendorf Galleries from 1943 to 1944. In later years she studied printmaking and experimented with marble and terra-cotta. Her fame came about from her show Ancient Games and Ancient Places at Grand Central Moderns, and she is considered one of the most important American sculptors.
Unique mixed media sculpture. Steampunk is a phenomenon that first emerged as a literary movement in the 1980s and has evolved into an art genre, cultural movement, style and subculture. What is steampunk fashion? Steampunks dress according to old patterns from the Victorian era and combine them with elements from Gothic fashion and Lolita fashion. Symbols from science fiction and adventure stories, such as Jules Verne, serve as decorations. About this artwork: Classification, Techniques & Styles Clay Sculpture technique using as a raw material a malleable soil that can have different colors. Metals Sculpture technique using metal, generally malleable, ductile and light-reflecting material. Surrealism Founded in 1923 by the writer André Breton, it will unite many artists like Salvador Dali (1904-1989), Max Ernst, René Magritte (1898-1967), Victor Brauner (1903-1966). Influenced by psychoanalysis, they see psychic life as a new field for renewing the arts. They will develop new ways to create and use new materials. Technic Sculpture Sculpture is an artistic activity which consists of designing and producing shapes in volume, in relief, either in the round (statuary), in high relief, in low relief, by modeling, by direct carving, by welding or assembly. The term sculpture also designates the object resulting from this activity. Related themes Steam PunkWomanContemporaryModernFigurative View less
We’re no stranger to Daniel Arsham‘s figural sculptures (previously here and here), works that use basic materials like broken glass or hydrostone to produce life-size human figures and technological objects like boom boxes, cameras, and video game controllers. In his newer works Arsham focuses more intently on the human figure, creating full bodies and discrete gestures like hands folded in prayer, clasped together, or clutching a basketball. In each, the sculpture is seen in various states of decay, chunks missing from the work like it has been eaten away by some menacing force. More
The rock used to create the Venus of Willendorf was always a mystery—until now.
Following my initial sculpture “Discover” I played a bit more with the paper and plaster for this piece. My new work in plaster is based on my recent travels to ancient sites in Greece and Italy. The elegance, flow and surface smoothness of marble sculptures inspired me to create abstract work with similar qualities using layers of sculpted paper covered with marble plaster. Installed on walnut wood base. Please note: The color or the plaster piece is off-white, but depending on the lighting it develops a beautiful warm glow and shadows, that change with light throughout the day.
