Adapted from Food52, these pancakes are simple to throw together and make delicious use of an abundance of cabbage. I use 4 times the amount of cabbage called for in the original recipe (8 cups as opposed to 2), and I omit the shrimp, though I imagine the addition of shrimp would be very tasty. I like to serve these with a soy dipping sauce (as opposed to a mayonnaise-based one). The one below is one I've been using for years, but feel free to use your own.

This is the shortcut version: no cheese sauce, but a gorgeously huge amount of cheese, bound with egg and evaporated milk. Yum. And please read the Additional Information section at the end of the recipe before proceeding. For US cup measures, use the toggle at the top of the ingredients list.
This is why I’m not a cakestress. Do you see my “awwww isn’t she just precious” attempt to “drizzle” a seductively smooth guacamole sauce on my quesadillas? Right. It started off as this brilliant idea that was going to change the FACE of this blog. I got so excited, jumping up and down to Aaron, […]

This recipe was passed down to me from my German born grandmother. She came to this country in the 1930s. She worked in a country club as a cook and was quite an accomplished one at that. This is one of her german recipes passed down to me. This is so good with pot roast and gravy!
My mother was a first-generation American. She learned to speak Yiddish when her cousins escaped Poland in the early 1930s to come and live near her. She was poor growing up, and her cooking as an adult reflected the reverence she had for the simplest of ingredients.
I spent this past weekend in San Francisco with my sister’s family, celebrating my birthday as well as the completion of their new house. Her well-designed kitchen is one of chefs’ dreams—not only is she a talented interior architect, but she’s also a stellar cook. All of the shiny appliances had me aching to make a mess, so I enlisted her two kids to help me christen the new space with love.

October is a month loaded with tradition in Peru. It’s the month of the Señor de los Milagros, which has a number of devoted followers. According to a legend, a woman by the name of Josefa Marmanillo became ill and couldn’t walk or work. Overwhelmed but hopeful, she asked for a miracle, promising she would prepare a sweet dish in the name of this lord. One night she was healed and in her dreams, received this nougat recipe which she later prepared and sold on the streets. That’s how this recipe got its name. This Turrón de Doña Pepa was only available in the month of October. However, there are now a number of bakeries and stores that sell it, along with turroneros, by the kilo, year round. The preparation process is quite long and there are a number or variations of this recipe. Some nougat treats are softer than others, some dissolve in your mouth, while others are much drier. Ideally, this recipe should be soft, yet easy to cut into individual servings.
