The elegant Tanagra figurines, so popular more than a thousand years ago, provide an intimate look into the lives of the everyday people who loved them.
This small terracotta figurine is part of the so-called

Los más famosos son: Ambas son consideradas obra helenística de Alejandría. Copa de los Ptolomeos. La glíptica griega y romana no ha podido ser superada nunca, ni si quiera por el arte moderno. También sobresalió en el arte de la coroplastia, estatuas y relieves de barro cocido. Destacan las estatuitas de Tanagra y de Mirina por sus acabados perfiles. Las mejores obras datan entre los siglos IV y III a.C, pero ya empezaron en el VI a.C y siguieron en la época romana. Las características de la escultura griega en los mejores tiempos del arte son: la expresión de la realidad idealizada, la regular proporción orgánica, el alejamiento de lo vago y monstruoso, precisión de contornos y detalles y la armonía, belleza y finura en la ejecución.
The Tanagra figurines were a mold-cast type of Greek terracotta figurines produced from the later fourth century BC, named after the Boeotian town of Tanagra, where many were excavated and which has given its name to the whole class. However, they were produced in many cities. They were coated with a liquid white slip before firing and were sometimes painted afterward in naturalistic tints with watercolors, such as the famous "Dame en Bleu" at the Louvre. They were widely exported around the ancient Greek world. Such figures were made in many other Mediterranean sites, including Alexandria, Tarentum in Magna Graecia, Centuripe in Sicily and Myrina in Mysia.
