Fortunate Fairy is a fairy tale that came about from 'Story Time' at my grand- children's bedtime. They encouraged me not to read the stories which had been read to them time and again, but rather to tell them imaginary stories. Their delight and anticipation as each character became a vivid part of their imagination inspired me to write this story. | Author: Michele Fendel | Publisher: David Solly Sandler | Publication Date: Apr 09, 2014 | Number of Pages: 32 pages | Language: English | Binding: Paperback | ISBN-10: 0992468426 | ISBN-13: 9780992468422

Hello, fellow curious cats and scandalized spectators. Let me tell you a tale that still tickles my funny bone to this day, despite the initial shock it sent through my system. It was a dewy dusk in Bath, Somerset – yes, that quaint English city steeped in Roman history and Georgian architecture. But let’s forget …
Hello Everyone! Story retelling is an effective way to improve children's reading comprehension. For our kiddos who are just starting to develop their reading skills, this practice can be extremely helpful. Studies on story recall have found that extended use of the technique of story retelling leads to large improvements in story comprehension, making inferences, and understanding of story structure. Rather than having children answer specific questions about story details, story retelling requires children to focus on the bigger picture of the story and allows me to see how well a child understands the story as a whole. The goal should be to encourage students to think critically about the story and to improve their comprehension and vocabulary by having them tell their thoughts. As children become more comfortable with retelling stories, their language and listening skills will improve. I have previously posted about using a retelling rope to aid in the retelling of stories. This year I introduced a "Tell Me Tower." In the middle of our fairy tale unit, it was a great fit! I reviewed the important story elements and introduced some little icons to help them remember the elements. The kids made "Tell Me Towers" from paper towel tubes, construction paper and the icons. Then they got together with a friend and told each other about a story they had read, or heard. In this case, it was Cinderella. Some of the kids used the little puppets to also aid in the retelling. Here are a couple of pics. For your own set of "Tell Me Tower" icons, click HERE! :) (They are part of my Cinderella Unit!) The kids will keep their "Tell Me Towers" in their book baskets to use consistently with each book they read! Hope you can use this! Let me know!! Until then! Have a great weekend! Joyfully! Nancy
This Whitman Tell-a-Tale book, The Best Surprise of All, is copyright 1961. The story was written by Donna Lugg Pape and the illustrations are by Janet and Alex D'Amato. This little book has 14 pages not counting the front and back covers. It is chock-full of detailed and colorful illustrations of family life in the countryside. The inside of the book is in amazingly good shape for its age. Although there is some damage to the spine (see photo # 1 -- about an inch of it is torn open), and a few little dents, the covers still look great and the colors have faded very little, if at all. The back cover shows a list of other Whitman Tell-a-Tale book titles. The book measures about 5 1/2 inches across and is just about 6 3/8 inches inches tall. This attractive little kids' book would make a fun addition to any collection of midcentury or early 1960s memorabilia. Or, the illustrations are beautiful and might be used in any paper crafting application. This book was found by me in the actual attic of a nonsmoking New Hampshire home. As such, it is a found object and is of course being sold "as is".

At some point in my journey I claimed myself as a writer because of some small poems I did as a nauty kid who was always locked in the bedroom to reflect upon small mistakes... It's a tale as old as time (I heard that somewhere...), but do you know how old? The original was written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve and published in 1740! It's so telling that it remains a powerful example of how sometimes you have to look beyond the surface to find the true beauty in life. I find it reminds me of people and things I love, but didn't understand until I looked a little deeper. I like to think we all know what that's like, and this is my way of offering you a reminder.
I KNOW I'M NO BETTER THAN ANYONE... BUT I'LL BE DAMNED IF THERE IS ANYONE BETTER THAN ME.
Hi friends! What is it about Kindergarten? Abbey has hit full-blown tattle tale status, and it is making me absolutely CRAZY! I am a firm believer in the use of all sorts of tools when addressing a behavior concern. I can explain why it is a bad thing until my face turns blue, or I can read a few stories and show her a video. If that's what works, I say go for it! So, without further adieu...my favorite tools to stop the tattling! This post contains affiliate links. Books There are so many great story books about tattling! I love using books because they give me something to refer back to when I need to. "Remember what happened to so and so? What did they do?" Hooray for reading comprehension! I swear, one of the first things I do when we are learning something new is check to see if there are any videos. They work so well for Abbey. I like this one a lot. It is mostly about bullying, but covers the difference between telling and tattling. Activities I love the idea of giving kids someone else to tattle to! As a homeschooler, I also love the idea that most of these involve writing things down. This will either A) help my reluctant writer get more practice in or B) drastically reduce the tattling because she doesn't want to write it down. Either way, I call it a win!
