The Book of Mormon includes a uniquely detailed view of Satan when compared to other ancient Israelite texts of the time. Though the figure of Satan is mentioned in the Old Testament, some scholars debate whether or not he was portrayed as an opponent to God in these passages. So, why would Book of Mormon prophets write such stark depictions of Satan when their contemporaries did not yet understand him as the devil? It was Lehi who first "supposed" a connection with the fallen Lucifer in Isaiah and the same adversary spoken of by other ancient prophets. Lehi’s sons, Nephi and Jacob, then perpetuated this unique perspective of one lead adversary until it permeated the teachings of all the Book of Mormon writers and now you know why.
