•CREATED BY: RAJA RAVI VARMA Ahalya, the wife of Sage Gautama, was renowned for her beauty and purity. Captivated by her, Indra, the king of gods, disguised himself as Gautama and approached her. Deceived, Ahalya unknowingly committed a transgression. When Sage Gautama discovered the deceit, he cursed Indra and Ahalya. Indra was cursed to bear the marks of his shame, while Ahalya was turned into stone, to be redeemed only when Lord Rama touched her. Years later, Rama, while traveling with brother Lakshmana and teacher Vishwamitra, came across her hermitage. His touch broke the curse, restoring Ahalya to her human form. Filled with remorse, she repented deeply and was forgiven by her husband, marking her redemption. Ahalya’s story highlights themes of deception, penance, and divine grace.
