Sometimes we don’t even know what we need until we are in the midst of a moment… That happened to me today. A slow waking from an uneasy night of sleep… my head has been full lat…

Artist Endre Penovác (previously here and here) depicts mysterious cats and ethereal roosters with a carefully perfected watercolor technique using diluted inks. Instead of trying to control his brushstrokes, Penovac seems to let the medium run amok across the canvas as it bleeds in every direction, and yet even these happy accidents result in precisely rendered paintings. Seen here is a collection of paintings from the last year or so, but you can see more originals and prints on Saatchi Art. More
I was so happy to see you all at The Local Buzz Opening, thank you!! The show will be up through November 12. The Local Buzz Coffee House & Wine Bar is a great place to hang out. Sunday Ronda Dale is performing from 11 to 2! She's a wonderful local songwriter & singer! A new vegetable series has begun as many of my little postcard drawings of Maine & France have been going to new homes. "Eat your vegetables," we used to hear as metropolitan suburban children But today, in the more rural state of Maine I hear: "Eat your fresh, organic, local vegetables!", or better yet, "Grow your own." I come with no farming skills or experience, so for now I'm drawing my own. Tomorrow I go to the Deering Oaks Farmer's Market!! Happy & Healthy Weekend to you!
A print of my original painting "Index Straits," part of my series in which topographical images develop out of unlikely surfaces, like little worlds growing in unexpected places. The original was painted and drawn in layers of watercolor, ink, and gouache on a torn index page from an antique book. It's signed below the image, and will be shipped flat in a rigid mailer. The 13" x 19" paper size is closest to the original, but I can also print it in smaller sizes. (Please note: if you select a smaller size, the shipping calculated in your cart may be too high. I refund excess shipping charges in these cases. If you order multiple items and the calculated shipping charge seems very far off, please send me a message before ordering and I can create a custom listing for your order with exact shipping.) Find out more at bowseat.org. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ORIGINAL ARTIST STATEMENT Due to its mild seaside climate, my country, Peru, is an ideal place for whale sightings. For many people in the coastal region, being able to see a blue or a humpback whale is not a rare occurrence, leading to a lucrative bio-marine tourism industry. Ironically, Peruvian beaches are some of the most polluted in the world. I've been involved in two annual beach-cleaning projects and have been stunned by the countless bottles and plastic bags that spread across the shoreline of Lima alone. This is a factor that inspired my piece. My art project is my version of the "iceberg" metaphor: people can only see the portion above the surface but are oblivious to the portion undersea. I feel this is the case in Peru (as in many other countries); people can appreciate the whales yet fail to realize that by continuing to litter the sea with their plastic waste, they are responsible for the extinction of this cetaceous, which may unknowingly mistake the plastic for food. Therefore in my work I portray a whale emerging from the water - while the portion above the water is a regular painting of the animal, the submerged portion is the outline of the whale made completely out of plastic waste. I used acrylic to paint the upper whale and watercolours for the sea and sky. For the submerged portion I made a collage, pasting real plastic wrappers that I had painted and cut to resemble real waste.
