I use traditional oil technique and I place layer upon layer of translucent paint on canvas, to produce a luminosity that is rarely seen in contemporary marine paintings. But in some places I place textured strokes on canvas to show the brilliance and volume. That´s why you won´t find extremely thick texture in my paintings. My artworks remind works by the 19th century masters of marine art. Since I was educated as a draftsman, I can visualize the entire boat, using only its plans as a reference and I can draw the boat accurately at any angle. My passion for history and the ability to visualize in three dimensions allow me to recreate scenes from marine history with sincerity and feeling. Being involved with historical subject matter and with recreating the past, I am dealing with something that I have not seen or experienced, only read or researched. This is where the imagination comes in. Imagination is the prime ingredient; research and knowledge of history gathers the building-blocks, then the creative process begins. This helps me to recreate the story on canvas. Before taking the brush in hand, I conduct long studies for the reconstruction of historical facts. Much attention is paid to the authenticity of all facts and details. This study of maps, diagrams, drawings, design of ships, as well as costume of that time. The ultimate goal is to bring to the viewer a sense of wind in the sails and beauty of the seas. All my artworks are painted by hand, are copyrighted works of art. Thanks for viewing my paintings.
