Hello! Today I am using a product that I have loved for years - pigment powders! I share several easy ways to use them for shimmery backgrounds.
Hey there, friends, I've had a wonderful last-minute opportunity to join the Papertrey Ink Make It Market design team for today's All Through the House introduction. Kind of like a really awesome guest gig! You may already be in the know with this kit, as the team's posts went up quite a bit earlier this morning. If you haven't seen this morning's introductions, I'll be sure to link to them at the end. First, all the kit details: The next Make It Market Kit will be released on October 1st (tomorrow) and it is entitled "All Through the House." This is Betsy's much anticipated big holiday kit for the year. There are actually two kits, a main kit with the basic dies, stamps and paper. Then a Trimmings Kit will all kinds of fun extras. The kit revolves around a basic matchbox design and dozens of options for customizing and altering them! Betsy has integrated SO many amazing details into everything here, not only will your projects be gorgeous, but quick and easy to put together too. From gift card holders to tree ornaments, dimensional gift tags to place card holders, and even just intriguing card accents, you will never run out of options with this kit! You will have fun experimenting and playing with all of the contents once they show up at your door. The "All Through the House" Kit will be available for sale beginning on October 1st at 10pm ET, only at Papertrey Ink. Read all the details on Nichole's blog or contact Customer Service with any questions. I've been busy creating today and am excited to share my projects. The kit is beautifully designed and so easy to work with! One thing I'll mention is that I did not have the Trimmings Kit to work with. So everything you see here (unless otherwise indicated) was done with just the main kit plus ribbon, twine, and cardstock. I love, love, love the Trimmings kit, but you can create some pretty awesome projects without it, too! The matchbox design is clever and super versatile. For my first project, I've used the matchbox and frames to create a darling little gift box. It is sized perfectly to hold a gift card, but would obviously work for any small gift item or sweet treats. I started by assembling a card stock matchbox. Next I used the matchbox wrap die to create the matchbox sleeve. Then I used the frame to cut out the pretty box top and bottom. The top is a pre-printed pattern. It's beautiful as-is, but for just a little extra, I die-cut a wreath and cardinal and popped them up on the lamp post The frame has slider slits on the two long sides, perfectly for threading some ribbon through or a card stock strip. I used some Soft Stone satin ribbon, tied off in a bow and topped with some True Black baker's twine. The tag was done with a arched door die in the kit. It is designed to score on the left side of the doorway, so you can create a door flap that is hinged on one side for opening and closing. Easy enough to trim along that left score line to make this fun tag shape. Because the top and bottom frames are adhered to the sleeve, the box slides open without having to untie anything. My matchbox was made from Aqua Mist card stock. I used one of the dies to cut a rectangle piece of patterned paper to fit the back of the box perfectly. Here's a look from the side, where you can see how the ribbon thread through, and you can see the diagonal green striped pattern, which is the sleeve. Super elegant, yet so easy to create! My next project is an ornament, where I've used the inside of the matchbox to create a darling scene. There are many different pre-printed scenes that you can quickly die-cut and adhere to the inside. Additional elements are ready to die-cut individually -- stockings, trees, the logs and flame, and more -- perfect for layering and creating lots and lots of dimension. I did a little bit of my own thing for this scene. The background is trimmed down from one of the larger matchbook wraps. I added various die-cuts, including a vellum-backed window made from two dies. I used that same arched doorway die that I used for the tag on the first project to cut the arched opening in the background pattern and to cut the vellum backing. Then I used another die for the white mullions layer. I also stamped some garlands above the fireplace. I adhered the frame shape to both the front and backof the ornament, then added trees and the adorable 3D gift boxes to the front and Santa and his sleigh at the top. Betsy seriously thought of everything with all these wonderful details! To make a ribbon hanging loop, I threaded some New Leaf ribbon through the ribbon slits on the back frame, secured a loop at the top using two buttons, and then added some fun jingle bells (from my stash, not included in the kit) to the bottom "tail." I wanted to dress up the window frame, so I added some silver tinsel from my stash around the opening. Super festive! The Trimmings kit has some silver tinsel, too. Just a closer look at how I did the ribbon loop and how I added Santa. To make sure he wasn't hidden behind the front frame, I just added a strip of card stock, folded at a 90-degree angle. One side is attached to the box, the other to the sleigh. This gives the extra height, but the little strip is still hidden by the frame. (I hope that makes sense!) Almost forgot to mention this: Attaching the ribbon loop to the back side like this does create some balance issues because most of the weight is in the front. To make the ornament hang better, I added some weight to the back by die-cutting two extra frames out of Papertrey's new super heavyweight tag stock and gluing them to the back frame. The extra layers really help -- otherwise, the ornament wants to pitch forward. This last project is a super quick one. I took advantage of every efficiency Betsy builds into these awesome kits and just layered a whole bunch of pre-designed die-cuts to make an adorable scene. Aren't these different elements just so sweet?! In addition to die-cutting all the pre-designed elements, I die-cut a snow layer for the roof, adding glitter (from my personal supply, i.e., not in the kit) to the drippy parts (how's that for a fancy, technical term?) I have to tell you I had a super fun idea for inside the hinged door, but just couldn't pull it off for today. My house was originally going to be a tag, and inside the door, I wanted to add a photograph of my little guy standing in a doorway and sized just right, so that you'd open the door and he'd be standing there to greet you! For a tag, wouldn't this be a fun way to indicate who the gift is from? I can't wait to try that another time. For this card, I trimmed down a fireplace scene from one of the pre-designed wraps and layered that behind the door. A sweet peek into the inside of the house. That's it for me today. Thanks so much for stopping by! Remember, "All Through the House" will be available for sale beginning on October 1st at 10pm ET, only at Papertrey Ink. Hello! It's time for the October MFT Release! The new release is available now for purchase so be sure to head on over to the MFT Online Boutique and shop! And don't forget to stop by the MFT Blog for all the details, more inspiration, and a chance to win a prize! I do love a good Nativity and this silhouette is gorgeous!! So happy to have it in my Christmas stamping arsenal! I love the size and the pieces included--just perfect! I knew I wanted to try to light this baby up so I began but sponging the background using Broken China, Blueprint Sketch, Chipped Sapphire, & Black Soot Distress Inks, and adding detail with Sunrise Radiating Rays Stencil. The stars were created by spattering some white craft paint with a small art brush and set it aside to dry. Nativity Silhouette Die-namics was cut from Black Licorice card stock and once the background was dry, I laid out everything until I was happy with the arrangement, at which time I punch the holes that would end up behind the star and the manger. Next I marked the holes on the Sweet Tooth card stock card base and adhered the light kit to line up with the holes and taped it down. "Press" from Interactive Labels stamp set was stamped with Extreme Black hybrid ink on the card front over the switch, in a place I thought would be seen but not too distracting to the design, then popped the card front up on two layers of foam tape, testing light placement frequently during this process. A strip of Black Licorice card stock was added across the bottom with a sentiment from RAM Away In a Manger Stamp Set, heat embossed with white detail embossing powder. The rest of the Nativity die cuts were then adhered with foam tape and this is the result! I love how it turned out and hope you do too! And that's it from me for MFT's October Release! Thanks so much for stopping by--now go shop! All products from My Favorite Things unless otherwise noted. Stamps: RAM Away in a Manger, Interactive Labels Die-namics: Nativity Silhouette Stencils: Sunrise Radiating Rays MFT Card Stock/Specialty Papers: Sweet Tooth, Black Licorice Supplies/Tools: foam mounting tape, MISTI, Steel Snips, Large Metal Adapter Plate for Die-namics, On-Point Precision Glue Other: Die-cutting machine, paper cutter, MISTI Grid Paper Pad, MISTI Bar Magnets, Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper, white detail embossing powder, Embossing Magic, QuickStik Pick-up Tool, plastic eraser, Mini Ink Blending Tool, Mini Ink Blending Foam Pads, Scor-Buddy, Smart Grid Paper Pad, Pear Blossom Press 3-light kit, Broken China, Blueprint Sketch, Chipped Sapphire, & Black Soot Distress Inks, white craft paint, small art brush

Good morning! I'm popping in today to share a couple cards with a beautiful NEW Limited Edition Holy Night Card Kit from Simon Says Stamp! This is such a beautiful kit - and I love how it is focused on the real reason for the season as well! I love that huge sparkly star - and thought that little sheep looked perfect looking up at it - so I created a scene with that idea! I die cut the star a three times from white cardstock, and one time from gold glitter cardstock. I layered and paper pieced them together, and added the top white layer with just a dot of liquid glue in the center, so I could leave the edges to float free for dimension. I added a hill using Drifting Stitches die on white cardstock, then stamped, colored, and fussy cut out that sweet little sheep to put on the hill. I added a gold pearl in the center of the star, and stamped my sentiment on the bottom! Next up, I thought the Holy City Skyline stencils were super fun, so I did a light and bright card with those - instead of the expected dark night sky! I just did one layer of the buildings, and used some soft brown ink, with yellow over the top for the windows. I added the stars in blue ink, then stamped a sentiment over the top in black. I did a bit of ink blending around the edges with the same brown ink, just softer, to take the white edge off and soften the edges a bit. Finished off by matting that panel with some of the gold cardstock in the kit, and some of the yellow pattern paper, before mounting on a white cardbase! Good morning! Today is an amazing blog hop to celebrate Pinkfresh Studio's Holiday Stamp, Die, Stencil, and Hot Foil Release! If this release doesn't have you humming Christmas songs, I don't know what will! You aren't going to want to miss a stop along the way - TONS of inspiration and prizes up for grabs! YAY! As always, there is also a shipping promo - FREE US Shipping with $75 purchase, or discounted shipping for our international friends. Details and coupon codes are on this graphic: I managed to get several cards in - amazing how quickly playing Christmas music in the background gets your creative juices flowing, anyone else?!? I love these gorgeous new Ornament Layering Stencils - I actually put in a wish for layering ornament stencils, and these fabulous things were the result! And... coordinating dies just make them that much better! I stenciled them in a bright and happy color scheme, and die cut with the Coordinating dies. I saved the "Merry Christmas" word at the bottom of the stencils for another card later. I layered the branch and ornaments on a circle (it is actually leftover negative space from the final card I'm sharing today - from the Happy Holidays Circle Frame die). I used foam adhesive for lots of fun dimension. Background is one of the gorgeous new hot foil plates - Diamond Hot Foil Plate - that I know is going to be fabulous as a staple for much more than holiday cards! I also trimmed it down using the largest Stitched Rectangles die. I added the circle with more foam adhesive to continue on the feeling of dimension. Mounted everything on a coordinating green cardbase, added a few sparkly jewels on the ornaments, and around the edges, and finished off with a sentiment from the new (and AMAZING!) Perfect Sentiments: Holiday hot foil and coordinating die. I also added a secondary sentiment from Thrill of Hope stamp set. Another item from this release that I made a wish for some time back - layering tree stencils! The new Wintry Forest is SOOO fun and amazing! I can't wait to stencil it in ALL the colors! For my first card with it, I thought it would be fun to just use one single ink color, and do each layer of the trees in gradually deeper tones with the same ink. I chose Olive for this first try - and LOVE how it came out! Once I stenciled the trees, I used the final layer to add white embossing paste for a bit of texture, and added some gold splatters for sparkle. I then popped it behind a Blanket Stitched Oval to create a window, and mounted it on a deeper green cardbase. I used another one of those Perfect Sentiments: Holiday, again popped up with foam adhesive, and as before, another secondary sentiment from Thrill of Hope stamp set, heat embossed in white on black, and trimmed into a banner shape. Final touch on this card is a few Metallic Gold Pearls to coordinate with the gold splatters! And finally - more happy and non-traditional colors! The base of this card is some aqua cardstock with the new Diagonal Stripes hot foil plate over it with Prism hot foil - the color of this foil is pretty much silver with a hint of reflective rainbow hints. Sooo pretty! I added the new Happy Holidays Circle frame, stenciled in soft colors, and then stamped over the top and heat embossed in gold. I love that the sentiments have a coordinating die as well! The secondary sentiment I just heat embossed on a strip of colored cardstock, and then finished off with a few more Metallic Gold Pearls. To add the dimension to these pieces, I die cut them 3 times, and layered together instead of using foam adhesive. Just gave me a bit more of a stable piece, and easier than trimming down lots of little pieces of foam tape! This was our year for new Christmas stockings. Our last set had come under attack by the garage mice, were falling apart and needed to be retired. My first thought, of course, was to make our next ones. I went through a few phases, like planning for each of us to design our own,
Save this for Father's Day next year! Lorelei and I made a gift for her grandfather for Father's Day but that could easily be for a birthday, Christmas, or other gift-giving holiday. Here's what you need: potholder or oven mitt fabric paint fabric marker(s) another adult (seriously -- do this with a partner!) I poured some fabric paint onto a paper plate, then put Lorelei's hand in it to get it coated. With a little cajoling, my mom and I managed to get her to open her fingers wide, and then we pressed her hand onto the potholder. Once her handprint was dry, I traced my own hand around hers and put the date underneath. On the backside, I wrote this message: for a Dad and Papa [or grandpa, etc.] who has always done just the right amount of handholding. Super easy -- and a sweet, sentimental gift!
