This mezcal Negroni riff from Hello Stranger in Oakland matches the agave spirit's earthiness with the herbaceous aroma of rosemary.
The cocktail geeks cocktail, the Aviation, made with gin and Creme de Violette, is making a come back. I had never heard of the chic-sounding blue-tinged drink until today. At a wine lunch I happened to sit across from a guy who bartends at Nobus. In between sips of Pinot Noir we talked about his favorite gins (Hendricks, Citadelle, No. 209, Junipero) and gin drinks. Gotta try one.
A 'margarita' created with Gin
We are kicking off winter with a much-needed boost from our friend coffee. Alcohol and coffee go well together, so we came up with this twist on the classic espresso Martini. We beefed it up with some rum from Trinidad and some delicious smoked chili bitters, though obviously the real kick comes courtesy of freshly brewed Colombian coffee. Garnishing with lavender isn’t entirely necessary, but highly recommended. It gives the concoction a bright, clean scent.

Due to the fact that watermelon season has officially began, this week's gin and tonic is inspired by the flavors of a juicy watermelon coated in Tajin
I will admit, I didn't set out to make a cocktail for the blog this week. I just happened to have 2 mint plants sitting around, begging to be used. And while there are many recipes that call for mint, I kept thinking about the upcoming Kentucky Derby. While a mint julep would be fun (and expected),

Opened in 1906, the Ritz London is one of the most famous hotels in the world. Its Louis XVI and 24-carat gold leaf interiors inspired the gold-infused Ritz 110 cocktail, which was made to celebrate the hotel’s 110th birthday.

In this bright and elegant gin drink, freshly squeezed grapefruit juice complements Lillet Blanc's citrus tones, while botanical gin brings out the classic French aperitif's herbal notes. In addition to oranges and white wine, Lillet also includes quinine, a potent bittering agent that lends its astringent flavor to tonic water. A splash of sweet and floral elderflower liqueur serves as a graceful foil, resulting in a French Blonde cocktail that's harmonious and chic, with a lovely pale yellow hue that's just the thing for brightening up a cold night.
My office looks like a giant garage sale. And by garage sale, I’m referring to the excess amount of blogging paraphernalia including (but not limited to) Anthropologie bowls, dishes, legos, stacks of bills, a random nesting suitcase, and other props that seem to make sense all in the name of creativity. But it’s absurd. You can barely walk around ... Read More about 5 minute white peach margaritas

Bright, sweet, unapologetically tart, and literally bursting with flavor, citrus is one of the most delightful ingredients and easiest way to liven a cocktail. Fortunately, we are in the midsts of citrus season at the moment which means we can find these delicious and ripe fruits over flowing at the farmer’s markets and in stores. Everything from grapefruits, and pomelos to blood oranges and Meyer lemons. California is rife with citrus trees and though I don’t have a yard, many friends have been gushing over their abundant plants the past couple months (if this was said out loud you would detect a HINT of jealous). I have even been at an event where my friend brought a sack full of Meyer lemons from her tree that she snuck into my purse for me to use ( I ended up using them in a cocktail, shocker). They found their way into these perfectly balanced and easy Meyer Lemon + Sage Sours and they are absolute delicious if I do say so myself! If you have never had a Meyer lemon before, they are a real treat! Not only are they the prettiest lemons you ever did see, but their flavor is so unique. Not quite as […]
