"Hands down, The Man in the High Castle, by Philip K. Dick. The book is very different to the TV adaptation, but the starting point is the same, and they are both set in America following a defeat in WWII. I don’t want to spoil it for those who have never read it, but the quest that some of the characters go on, with that secret network under the belief that maybe America won after all, is what really opened my eyes to the fact that things aren’t always what we are told they are, and it’s also made me much more aware and critical of propaganda. To be honest, in the new era of “alternative facts”, I think that that novel is becoming much more relevant than it might have been before."Submitted by tiggaplease.
