Irish marble earrings - This authentic green Connemara marble was sourced directly from a quarry near the Twelve Bens in northern Connemara and shaped into tube beads by a second generation stone carver in nearby Co. Mayo. Considered to be Ireland's quintessential stone, the colors mirror the landscape's "forty shades of green." Please note that Mother Nature endows each stone with its own unique character so no two will be identical. There is a bit of variation in color and striations in each. The beads are dressed in copper, a natural pairing as Ireland's long history of copper mining dates back to the early Bronze Age. I also handcrafted petite copper spirals to dangle from each earring. The spiral is the most ancient of Celtic symbols, evident in ruins throughout Ireland. The hey were oxidized, tumbled. and polished to endow the copper with a rich patina. What better way to connect with the auld sod than to wear a bit of its very foundation? The dangle on these earrings is about 2 1/4" including handcrafted copper wires. My third image gives you an accurate illustration of scale.
