This vintage Cuala Press hand colored print was designed by Mary Cottenham Yeats with a poem by Irish poet John Todhunter. The Cuala Press was an Irish private press set up in 1908 by Elizabeth Yeats with support from her brother W B Yeats that played an important role in the Celtic Revival of the early 20th century. The Cuala was unusual in that it was the only Arts and Crafts press to be run and staffed by women and the only one that published new work rather than established classics. The name Cuala came from the Gaelic territory covering south Dublin before the Norman conquest of Ireland. The print is in great vintage condition. The frame shows some mild wear; there are a few tiny chips along the edges that have been touched up with a black marker (see last two pics for an example). It is really only noticeable on close inspection. There is a paper attached to the back telling the history of the press. Frame measures roughly 12.75” x 9”. Please review the photos for condition, and feel free to reach out with any questions you may have!
