Love. It's an overused, and often misused word, and I am certainly guilty. I created a craft that focuses on people and not things; God and not self. Before beginning this craft, we read the verse 1 John 4:16 from the Bible and discussed it. We talked about what love does and does not look like and who we can and should demonstrate love to. While hanging out with Little Sis, I prepared for the craft by cutting out many hearts. To encourage Brother's participation, he delivered them to the kitchen table using his dump truck. Gather Your Supplies: Precut hearts (2-4 per color of the rainbow) Precut "cloud" (I used 8 1/2 x 11 paper) Heart stickers, optional Yarn (cut for each color of the rainbow) Marker School glue (though tape would also work) Newspaper or cardboard to cover work surface Craft: ♥ Begin by choosing a verse or phrase about loving others, and write it on the cloud. I chose 1 John 4:16. ♥ Have your child decorate the cloud with stickers. ♥ Turn the cloud over. Help your child space the yarn appropriately so there will be room for all of the hearts. Glue the yarn to the cloud's back side. ♥ Working in order of the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, [indigo,] violet), place each set of colors along a strand of yarn. Show your child how to space them. See photo below on left. ♥ After knowing placing all of the hearts, glue them to the yarn. See photo below on right. ♥ Let dry. Trim the yarn tails below the hearts. ♥ Hang as a reminder of God's love and our love. Below is my three year old's love rainbow craft. We began with writing lots of names on hearts, but he was not interested in arranging them, so we chose just a few names to include in his toddler version of the craft. (I do realize the verse is written incorrectly. Oops.) Please Note: ♥ I would suggest cutting the yarn pieces longer than you think you need. ♥ You could use rainbow-colored yarn. ♥ You could include photographs in place of names. ♥ Instead of writing the names of people, you could write what love looks like when demonstrated. (I wish I had thought of that sooner!) ♥ Consider also using this craft as a prayer list. ♥ As with any craft, we hope we may have inspired you! Keep in mind this is adaptable for toddlers to school-aged children. We created the simple rainbow craft below years ago. It still hangs in our kitchen cupboard (as a discreet way to display art). My daughter has asked repeatedly if we could make it again. The love rainbow craft was my newly-inspired interpretation of it.
