There are about one hundred and twenty islands making up the Polynesian archipelagos. C’est sans compter avec les myriades d’îlots gravitant autour d’elles comme autant de lunes autour des planètes de la galaxie. These islands come in all shapes and sizes and are called motu (pronounced motou). From Huahiné, one of these islands, I have often seen this fisherman paddling, in no hurry, on his va'a. Towards here, towards there, towards the exit of Haapu Bay, towards the reef to set his lines... his dog perched behind him always seemed very concentrated and motivated by the navigation.
