Successive blending is a scaffold for emergent readers. If you have a student who can read the letter sounds but then says the wrong word, this is the perfect thing to try. For example, the student reads /c/ /a/ /t/ but says the word tan. Successive blending helps students to hold onto all three sounds in the correct order so they can read CVC words accurately.
