Claire’s pictures capture light and movement to give a sense of place and invite you to form your own interpretation of the landscape. They are painted mostly in oil and mixed media. The layers are thickly applied against her textured studio wall, then partially scraped or wiped away and given the spontaneous finishing touches. She lives locally and so naturally the New Forest and Solent are themes that reappear in her work. She has just won the Chapple canvas prize for outstanding work in oil awarded at the Royal Society of Marine Artists’ annual exhibition. This adds to her increasing number of awards. Artist Statement: I have always been interested in painting and followed it through to degree level as a mature student at Lancashire Polytechnic. Later, I completed a Masters in Fine Art at Northumbria University while teaching in a college. I work with oils and mixed media based on Landscape. My intention is to capture a sense of place through depicting an atmosphere using seen and abstract spaces. I build up layers or depth and texture using fragments of collage and drawing materials over the top of dried oil paint. Light and movement is the focus for my paintings. Turner and Pollock have been big inspirations. I work from memory, drawings and photos to create a personal statement of a moment. The New forest and Dorset coast are just two special places. I love travelling and have kept journals and sketches from around the world often on solo journeys. These provide inspiration as well as the poems that I produce, which often accompany my work.

Linocut on Fabriano Rosapina 220g ivory paper. Illustration taken from my project "Rendez-vous bleu". This linocut can be used as a wall decoration, why not combined with other illustrations. I manually print each copy, so each is unique with slight variations in color. There are 50 numbered and signed prints. Format 35 x 25 cm. They are sold unframed. I draw my project directly on the linoleum and cut using a sharp knife. Then I roll a water-based ink on the lino and lay the paper to make a manual print. If you would like another color than those offered, or if you have a question, don't hesitate to ask me.

This captivating piece is a vibrant expression of Camusdarach Beach, one of Scotland's most picturesque coastal gems. The artwork exudes a dynamic energy, typical of the Expressionist style, where bold brushstrokes and an evocative use of colour are utilised to convey the emotional experience of the landscape rather than a precise likeness. The print depicts an array of abstracted forms and sweeping colours that capture the beach's essence, with a palette concentrating on azure blues and crisp whites reflecting the sky and sea's interplay. A symphony of cerulean and Prussian blue, dotted with streaks of white, suggests a lively sky, dancing with movement above the horizon. The sea is rendered in beautiful shades of turquoise and teal, laced with ribbons of deeper marine blues that hint at the depth and movement of the waters. The beach itself is suggested by warm sand tones, interspersed with cooler greyish hues and dashes of light, possibly representing the shimmer of sunlight on wet sand and rock. In the distance, the majestic outline of the coastal landscape meets the ocean, with rolling hills in varying shades of green, giving a sense of the rugged, unspoiled nature of the Scottish highlands. The foreground exhibits a more abstract arrangement of colours, where splashes of orange, green, and ivory might suggest the wild flora and rock formations typical of the area, all coming together to lead the viewer's eye through the canvas and into the distance. This piece is a stunning tribute to the wild beauty of the Scottish coastline, making it a perfect addition to our 'Scottish Beaches' collection. It would bring a touch of the untamed Scottish landscape into any space, evoking emotions and inviting contemplation of the natural world in its most expressive form.

In the foreground, the tide retreats to reveal the beach's textured tapestry, strewn with scattered rocks whose shadows merge into the darkening sands. The rhythmic ebb and flow of the sea's foam-edged waves adds a serene yet potent energy to the piece, evoking the gentle sounds of the surf. The coastline's rugged silhouette anchors the composition, its dramatic cliffs standing as silent guardians over this secluded spot. Each stroke conveys movement and emotion, a testament to the spontaneous and intuitive approach of the expressionist style.
