UK-based book sculptor Emma Taylor sources old books from charity and antique shops and gives them a second story. Taylor uses simple materials—just glue, paper, and scissors—to sculpt architectural facades, lively animals, and leafy trees from otherwise unused titles. Each scene is inspired by the book’s written content, with a garden scene emerging from An Introduction to Botany and Italian houses built out of The Story of Venice. The artist shares on her website that she has been carving and sculpting books for several years, and has exhibited her creations in Cambridge, London, and Hong Kong. More

here are some books that are off limits (Jane Austen will never meet her end like this), but these mangled books are finding a new way to share beauty with the world, and we think that excuses the desecration of a few novels. Here are some amazing ways that Stampington artists have transformed books into extraordinary pieces of artwork.
I comb antique markets in search of beautiful, well loved vintage books. Because these book sculptures are viewed from every angle, I look for tomes with unique and colorful cover artwork and titles. The process of transforming this book involved trimming and painting the pages into a lovely butterfly in flight. The inside cover of the book is refinished with floral paper and antiqued to provide a stunning background to the artwork. Velvet ribbon, trim, and lace finish the center binding and add texture and whimsy. Each piece is truly one of a kind! This book sculpture would look lovely on a shelf or tabletop, sure to add beauty from every angle.
The book serves as a tool to record historical events that transcend through the ages, passing down knowledge from generation to generation, spanning

Artist Ekaterina Panikanova creates densely layered paintings across large spreads of old books and other documents, resulting in artwork that blurs the lines between painting, installation and collage. Born in St. Petersburg in 1975 Panikanova graduated at the top of her class from the Academy of Fine Arts and was subsequently given a studio to work from for five years. She now lives and works in Rome. Much of what you see above was from her second ever solo show Un, due, tre, fuoco at z2o Galleria earlier this year. More

These beautiful 3D sculptures of paper take a whole new look at the idea of a "pop-up" book. Pennsylvania-based artist Jodi Harvey-Brown alters old books and gives them a second life by making beautiful sculptures out of their pages. “The books that we love to read should be made to come to life. Characters, that we care so much for, should come out of the pages to show us their stories," said the artist.
I’m completely blown away by these cut book constructions by artist Alexander Korzer-Robinson, who carefully and strategically cuts vintage books to leave behind only certain images, resulting in these amazing 3D art prints. I can’t even imagine the amount of time and patience that must go into one of these! I would love to try […]
