Many of our thoughts that arise in response to situations are negative, anxious, and irrational. Negative thoughts trigger negative emotions. Let’s challenge ten common negative thinking patterns so we can maximize positive emotions. Learn how to stop negative thinking with nine helpful strategies.
This collection is a set of 5 individual/group activities that can be used during sessions with student(s) to help them begin to build emotional regulation skills. Appropriate for grades 2.5 to 8th, the older the student the more “in depth” they can go with these, younger students vary on cognitive abilities and grades 2-3 should be considered on a case-by-case basis. These activities can take multiple sessions to complete- it all depends on the student. Rational Emotive Therapy techniques (thank you Albert Ellis) are used as well as solution-focused techniques. These activities can be repeated to help students reflect on different emotions, problems, and beliefs. The order can be changed; however, best practice is to start with the “What’s Inside my Head?” activity, this is student directed and can be a great reference during future sessions. As a closure to my sessions with a student, I have repeated this activity to see if anything has changed from our first session. Table of Contents: 1. What’s Inside my Head (typically one 30 minutes session) 2. Big vs. Little Problems: Do they align? (typically two-three 30 minute sessions) 3.
