Jonathan Jones: Freud worked his way into the tradition of Constable and Gainsborough to release the deepest, most intense painting of recent times – as in this study of fellow artist Auerbach
Patricia Perrier-Radix was born in a small village located in the Monts du Lyonnais called Yzeron. As a gifted, self-educated woman, she had been drawing with passion for ages. Now thanks to her very distinct style, she mostly paints very contemporary - sometimes even abstract - figurative compositions with oil paints shaped by palette knives.
The late Catalan painter Joan Marti Aragonès was born in Barcelona in 1936, during the Spanish Civil War. At thirteen years of age he was admitted as an apprentice to the studio of Nolasc Valls. Marti showed a predilection for Figurative Art from the start and enrolled in the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, whence he graduated in 1959 with a BFA. After completing his studies he won a scholarship to further their studies in Italy and America. At twenty years of age, Marti had his first solo exhibition. Six years later, and after a deep reflection on his painting, he had his successful second exhibition, this time in the Gallery Jaimes in the famous Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona. In 1986 he moved to Rome, to the Cinecitta film studios, where the film Othello was shooting, and with full authority from director Franco Zeffirelli, took notes on Placido Domingo, Katia Ricarelli and other actors. Martí completed 25 works on the theme of Othello with Placido Domingo as the main model for a traveling exhibition which went worldwide in 1992. From then he held exhibitions in the major Spanish galleries, and throughout the world. Joan Marti passed away in February, 2009.

I love beautiful dresses. I don't wear them. I never have. I would have loved to. But I love to look and adore. I imagine myself being 20 again wearing one. So next best thing is to live through my daughters. Our son won't wear them either. Tee Hee! I wanted to post these and confess I am neither tortured nor have some angry angst. I love all things beautiful whether it's clothing, furniture, the way a lawn is manicured or how a blanket is folded over a chair, dishes displayed, laundry neatly piled after folding. I believe in reference for every task. This rant went further than just prom dresses! But sometimes experiences make me feel like I need to apologize for myself and my "provincial tastes". Man, what brought this on! I think this all came about from recently checking out the arts district in Culver City, CA. What a charming and very hip area! So cool! Young people defining themselves and how they live. And I felt like a duck out of water. I felt very "out of touch". I just need to get out of my "cow town" more often. What a great place to visit! Now I have work to do to try and be more sophisticated.
