These are such potent times! Transformative circumstances tend to invoke fear, an inflated desire for control, and a search for certainty and security. Yet, such times can also be emancipating because they can provoke us to dig deep, open up and reach beyond the limiting beliefs of the day while pioneering into a brighter future. […]

This past Friday, I received a complimentary copy of Teesha Moore's Art and Life magazine where images of my journal pages took up nearly three pages. I am grateful to Teesha for including my pages. I know that she has a lot of fans out there. It's an interesting story (at least I think it is) of how she ended up publishing some of my pages. Back in the spring, I was searching the web for new and different opportunities for the Journal Fodder Junkies, and I have know about Teesha's Artfest for many years. I emailed her, told her a little about what Dave and I do, and asked about getting an application to be instructors for Artfest 2009. She emailed back saying that she was dropping the info in the mail and asked if I had a website. I steered her to the blog and to my personal Flickr page, and she emailed asking if I would like to be published in her magazine. I sent her some images, and lo and behold, three glossy pages of my stuff. I know that the magazine has led at least one person to the blog and ultimately to the website, and I'm hoping that it will help get the word out about the Journal Fodder Junkies. Thanks very much, Teesha.

The basic definition of fodder is the coarse food fed to livestock, but another definition is the widely available materials for a given purpose. For me, fodder is the flotsam and jetsam of everyday life -- the ephemera that gathers from some of the most mundane places. I don't go to an arts and cra
We've made it to another Friday! TGIF! Politics are not the normal fodder here on the blog, but I'm guessing a lot of people watched the GOP debate last night. If only to see what Donald Trump would do. After his tasteless jab at Rosie O'Donnell (not a huge Rosie O'Donnell fan, I just don't like to see any man call any woman a fat pig), I pretty much could see how the night would go. In fact, the little bro and I came up with a GOP debate night drinking game while the hubby was at work yesterday. I won't regale you with all the rules, I'll just share a couple of my favorites: Ironically (or not), the funniest rules had to do with Trump- Every time Trump says something racist, drink. Every time Trump calls someone a loser, drink. Anytime Trump says "You're fired", take 3 drinks! We had great laughs over this rule, even though it never happened. Our other favorites were: Anytime Obama Care is referenced as a sign of the Apocalypse, drink. Anytime Chris Christie warns Washington, Oregon, Colorado, or Washington DC that their "pot party" is about to end. Anytime Jeb Bush mentions his father or brother, drink. And probably the rule we ended up drinking to the most- Anytime one of the governors brags about their less-than-impressive actions as governor. We only played for about 20 minutes, but we were pretty silly after 20 minutes. Needless to say, we were drinking. A lot. Then, after 20 minutes, we turned our attention back to the movie we had taken a break from, "Pitch Perfect 2". The movie was infinitely more fun to watch :) Let me empathize, all was in good fun and I'm definitely not looking to disrespect anyone's political views. I'm just saying, we had a jovial time with it here. Sooooo... muffins. These muffins are a great way to utilize the mass amounts of zucchini you may have. They have a really warm, almost spice cake-like quality, yet the acid in the lemon juice keeps them bright. They're moist, and I think the blueberries give them a little something extra. They didn't last long around the spice-cake-loving hubby though, that's for sure. I want to talk about Sears now, so let me tell you these are super-easy to make. They only require 1 bowl and no mixer! Mix by hand! I love easy recipes. Make these with all that summer squash, and let's talk about hideous customer service, shall we? Ah, Sears. I expect them to go under any day now. After our disastrous day with the 7 hour delivery window and midnight assurances that our mattress would still be delivered, we kind of expected to hear from Sears to reschedule our delivery. No such luck. At around noon the next day, the hubby called Sears to tell them they were 18 hours late. First the customer service rep tried to tell the hubby that his appointment wasn't for 4 more hours. The hubby laughed at him and told him our appointment was supposed to be yesterday. The rep got flustered and told the hubby that the delivery was still coming!! After much to-do, the rep finally told the hubby that they would need to reschedule the delivery for August 18th. Umm, August 18th?? What in the heck is wrong with these people?? The hubby got our sales rep's number out (the guy who sold us the mattress) and gave him a call. The rep told us that they have a ton of trouble with the delivery service and actually, 50% of his sales are usually cancelled due to the delivery service. ??? Why would a company keep a third-party vendor when it's costing them 50% of their sales? How Sears remains afloat, I'll never know. To shorten this story, the hubby and I marched down to the Mattress Warehouse with our Sears receipt in hand. We asked them if they could match the price, and what do you know? 10 minutes later we walked out after having bought the same mattress for the same price and it will be delivered on Tuesday, a week sooner than Sears. In conclusion- 1. We should have a mattress by August 11th. 2. The hubby got to call Sears, cancel the sale, and tell them where exactly, the precise depth, and what instrument they should use to shove it. 3. Stockholm Syndrome be damned, we are never shopping at Sears again!! Happy Friday everyone! Ingredients (makes 12 muffins): 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 cup Greek yogurt, plain 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup light brown sugar zest of 1 lemon 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 cup whole wheat flour 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp baking soda 1 1/2 cups shredded zucchini 1 1/2 cups blueberries Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350º. Line a muffin pan with liners, set aside. 2. In a large bowl, combine eggs, vanilla, and yogurt. Whisk until well combined. Add sugars and lemon zest, mix until well combined. Add flours, cinnamon, salt, baking powder, and baking soda to bowl. Fold dry ingredients in until just mixed. Do not over-mix. Add zucchini and blueberries to bowl, gently fold into the batter. 3. Divide batter among muffin pan. Bake for 18-23 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool in pan for 10 minutes, remove to a cooling rack. Cool completely before storage. Muffins store best in a tupperware covered by a dish towel for 2-3 days. An air-tight container will spawn mold quickly. Printable Recipe Recipe adapted from Cooking a la Mel. A scroll through Vanessa Mckeown’s Instagram reveals a bottomless trove of absurdity and the playfully unexpected: cooked spaghetti pours from a bronze tap, a tennis ball bounces off a tennis racket made of waffles, and a trio of donuts hangs from a toilet paper holder. The London-based artist has an eye for the strange, quirky possibilities of humble everyday objects like snacks and plants, and her body of work extends back to 2015 when she photographed minimally composed interpretations on bright monochromatic backdrops.
