"The face and soul of man, the drama of life, the impressions of nature, its life and meaning, the spirit of history—these are our themes," wrote Repin, who was celebrated as a master even during his own lifetime. His works reflect Russian art’s main ideological and formal aspirations in the second half of the 19th century.
About Roman school late 17th - early 18th century - Follower of Niccolò Codazzi (Naples, 1642 - Genoa, 1693) Pair of fantastic architectural whims with classical ruins and figures Oils on canvas, cm. 47 x 60, framed cm. 85 x 68 A suggestive perspective of classical architectural ruins dominates the scene in this beautiful pair of capricci, whose style characteristics appear to be influenced by the models designed by Viviano (1604 - 1670) and his son Niccolò Codazzi (1642-1693), who collaborated in the atelier paternal in Rome before pursuing an independent career. The present pendant, in particular, is the work of an author active between the end of the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, very similar to the ways of Niccolò Codazzi in the central period of his Roman production, when he used to collaborate with some bamboccianti, who usually inserted small contour figures to animate the whims. After his youth in Naples and the activity in his father's workshop, Niccolò Codazzi, with his works from the Roman period, began to develop an independent artistic personality, and the present painting represents an excellent model of this process. In his architectural views and inventions he prefers a clear and luminous palette, marked by deep chiaroscuro contrasts and a decisive volumetric rendering. As for the composition, on the other hand, it reproduces the Roman ruins with a faithful analysis, or, if built with imagination, they always had to be based on a level of verisimilitude, with the light that exposed the monumental architectures in ruins, the crumbling arches , the corroded walls, leaning against ancient monuments now invaded by vegetation. Both the canvases and the frames are in good condition, with some signs of aging. The pictorial material is preserved in an excellent way. Embark on a visual journey to the rugged cliffs of North Berwick, captured in the vivacious strokes of Abstract Expressionism. This evocative print marries the untamed beauty of Scotland's coast with a kaleidoscopic reverie where colour and form dance together in wild abandon. Washes of cerulean blue suggest the expansive ocean brushing against the coastline, while the cliffs are rendered as a rich tapestry of pastel hues – lilac, soft pinks, and creams layered over a base of earthy tones. Foregrounded by the delicate white blossoms of Sea campion – a flower known for gracing Scotland's rocky landscapes – the print offers an impressionistic representation of flora, swaying gently against the abstracted natural elements. The creamy petals and vibrant yellow centres contrast strikingly with the impressionistic background, their simple forms bringing a sense of calm to the dynamic composition. Each brushstroke contributes to an overall sense of movement and energy, as if the sea breeze itself were guiding the artist's hand. This print gracefully bridges the boundary between the real and the imagined, offering a modern homage to Scotland's timeless flowers and flora. Whether adorning the walls of a contemporary living space or a traditional study, this piece adds a burst of creative spirit and a homage to the elemental beauty of the Scottish coast.

Quang Ho's "Seated Figure Abstraction" is an oil on board featuring a seated female nude with an abstract background. About the artist: Quang Ho was born on April 30, 1963, in Hue, Vietnam. He Immigrated to the United States in 1975 and is now a U.S. Citizen. His artistic interest began at the early age of three and continued through grade school, high school, art school and led him to a very exciting and successful painting profession. In 1980, at the age of 16, Quang held his first one-man-show at Tomorrows Masters Gallery in Denver Colorado. The exhibit was a smashing success for the high school sophomore. In 1982, Quang's mother was killed in a tragic auto accident, leaving him the responsibility of raising four younger brothers and a six year old sister. That same year, Quang attended the Colorado Institute of Art on a National Scholastics Art Awards Scholarship. At CIA Quang studied painting under Rene Bruhin, whom Quang credits with developing the foundation for his artistic understanding. Ho graduated from CIA in 1985 with Best Portfolio Award for the graduating class. An art dealer, Mikkel Saks, discovered his talent and promoted him in his gallery, which led to much success. He also teaches at the Denver Art Students League. He plays golf and reads philosophy and religion extensively. He is a great admirer of Andrew Wyeth. Ho’s clients include Adolph Coors Company; Upjohn, Safeway, Colorado Symphony, Chicago Symphony... Ho's illustration works have been featured in the Illustrators Annual and exhibited at the Museum of American Illustrations; and the Communication Arts Illustrations Annual during those years. Working mostly in oils and occasionally watercolor and pastels, Ho's subject matter ranges from still-life, landscapes, interiors, and dancers, to figuratives. "Subject matter is not really important to me. I can find visual excitement all around me as well as on the canvas - from a knot on a tree, graceful limp of a flower wilting, to a juxtaposition of a few simple shapes and colors...inspirations are inexhaustible." Artist's Statement "Realism and abstract-it's all the same to me. The real essence of painting is the dialogue between shapes, tones, colors, textures, edges, and line. Everything else follows-including light, form, concepts personal beliefs and inspirations. For me, painting is a marriage between the mastery of those 'basic visual elements; the discoveries and understanding of visual statements [the search for what is true on a personal level artistically]; and the trust in ones own wordless intuition and inspiration. Understanding gives rise to higher understanding. Working this way allows me to open the door to new ideas and inspirations. One day I may be interested in a color statement, and the next may be a relationship of simple shapes, and the next an extremely complex arrangement of texture and edges...With every painting there is a singular visual thought to be completed."

I love painting with complementary colours. When two colors that are opposite on the colour wheel meet in a painting, the results are vibrant and vivid. They can actually be disorienting in large doses (think those black & white optical illusion pieces) but for an artist, they are a great to
Laurent Dauptain was born in Paris on March 25th in 1961. From the age of six he attended painting classes for adults. At the age of 18, he wins first prize at the entrance exam of the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He later goes on to study at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs and the Sorbonne University in Paris. His first solo exhibition in 1981 has the title “Self- portraits” – a theme that will stay his characteristic subject to this day. He has painted and drawn more than 2000 self-portraits in a variety of styles. Laurent Dauptain has also gained recognition for his urban and industrial landscapes, marine paintings, and still lifes. The work of Laurent Dauptain seduces, fruit of a liberated view, subtle, that works into the powers of the emotional and intimate universal dimension. Heir of the great classical French tradition, he is still undeniably in the present by this compositional quality of his stroke. Caressing and nourishing, his stroke transforms the subject into a moment of painting, a snapshot forever uncertain. There is this constant willingness to strip the model from the anecdotal and to keep only the substance, a search that is as significant in his landscapes, be it from Europe or the United States, as it is in his self-portraits, a constant in his oeuvre. Since his beginning, Dauptain has undertaken a work on his own face. This face, in turn Christian or expressionist, exposes the force of his vision. With this delicate exercise, at the knife’s edge, ignoring narcissism and self-celebration, he tells his own story, but also speaks of the passing of time, and discusses in passing masterfully pictorial problems related to the question of representation … and paradoxically, transforms this obsessional face-to-face into a lesson of humanity.” (PHILIPPE ANCELIN, La Gazette, Drouot Nr 3, January 2013)

This has been one of my favorite locations for a large number of my river paintings! It is a tucked away river in the woods in upper Vermont where I grew up in a dairy farm. I can still remember hiking down a steep hill on our property over a stone wall into the cool forest and coming up to the bank of the river, hearing the gurgling water and the sweet smell of the pines! This is a 24” x 30” oil on Masonite, a easy standard frame size to find. It is signed and dated and all varnished. Packaged in flat cardboard that this size generally costs $24 or less range to most locations. I have mailed out several dozens of paintings with no damage reported! New paintings being posted all the time, you can look at my inventory on my Facebook page Herbs Paintings!
I was driving with my dad along a county road in northern Wisconsin a few weeks back and I noticed that many of the fields had just been cut and the hay had been bound into round bales which dotted the landscape. The late afternoon sun lit them up nicely. As my dad has gotten older, his mobility has decreased, but I’m thankful that he’s still sharp and I greatly enjoy taking drives with him through the countryside he knows so well. Each woven archival print is hand mounted onto a ¾” thick cradled wood panel. They are easy to hang, lean or stand. Sizes Available: 5" x 5" 8" x 8" 12" x 12" 18" x 18" 24" x 24"

The composition comprises three main elements: the sea whipped up by a storm, three boats, and a mountain. The mountain with a snow-capped peak is Mount Fuji, which in Japan is considered sacred and a symbol of national identity, as well as a symbol of beauty. Using the boats, with their thirty passengers, as a reference, we can see the wave must be close to 12 meters tall. The wave, which curls around like a claw to frame Mount Fuji, shows the artist’s awe and fear of the unpredictable sea.
