One artist on how representing herself through her work made her feel proud of her body.
©Ron Hicks "Wait, is that a Degas? A Cassatt?" is probably something Ron Hicks gets a lot. As a contemporary artist, Hicks' talent for blending Impressionist and abstract techniques will make you do a double take, as his languid, cafe lovers could just as easily be mid-embrace circa 1870 or 2017.
Herbert James Draper - Go Lovely Rose! Tell her that Wastes her Time and Mine
This is a fine art print on high quality Canon Pro Matte paper of my original, surreal oil painting, "From the Mud". I have always loved the concept of the lotus flower growing from the bottom of the pond, through the mud, and with little light until it finally completes its journey to the surface of the water. During the time of creating this painting, I felt completely submerged in mud mentally and emotionally. I wanted to use those emotions as fuel to inspire my way out of that dark place. The woman is in a fetal-like position with body language displaying surrender. Her energy is going towards creating something beautiful - towards making it above the water. And with time, she gradually does. PLEASE READ: Prints 8.5" x 11" have an even 1/4" white border around all edges. Prints this size with be placed in a protective plastic sleeve, and mailed in a sturdy, cardboard mailer for safe delivery. When you got the current paint on the wall of your room, you were super excited! I can totally get it, because I too got a new painting just recently. But today, I was just staring at the walls and wondered what made it so dull? To be frank, ‘time’ is the answer.
When it comes to art, there are so many mediums and types that they can encompass a huge array of work. In this article, we will take you through some points around graphite art. Graphite pencils as opposed to ordinary writing pencils has a graphite lead that makes it easier to draw. As you may be aware if you are into arts, that drawing is the most basic of the visual arts with many artists struggling to do it right. Drawing in art is not only about observing the object that you are trying to draw but also the way light and shadow that plays on it and understanding it from your perspective. You can always resort to easy step by step art drawings to practice before going on to more complicated stuff.
Multi-disciplinary artist and illustrator James R. Eads plays with motion and color to render harmonizing illustrations of people and nature. With swirling van Gogh inspired skies and percussive strokes of color, his style is well-suited for meditations on human connection and the relationships between humans and the natural world. He also makes pretty wicked gig posters. The LA-based artist lives and works at the The Brewery where his studio is open to the public during bi-annual art walks. More

Dark red roses, rhubarb, dark plums, Chambord, spicebush, cassis, and lemon verbena infused into an aphrodisiac potion of dark golden amber, vanilla infused patchouli, opoponax, labdanum, guaiac wood, and botanical pheromones. “I was dancing with an immortal august woman, who had black lilies in her hair, and her dreamy gesture seemed laden with a wisdom more profound than the darkness that is between star and star, and with a love like the love that breathed upon the waters; and as we danced on and on, the incense drifted over us and round us, covering us away as in the heart of the world, and ages seemed to pass, and tempests to awake and perish in the folds of our robes and in her heavy hair." ― W.B. Yeats, Rosa Alchemica Art: Love Thoughts by Raphael Kirchner, 1900
When it comes to painting a portrait, there are three specific types of paints that are used – oil, water and acrylic paints. Each of these paint types has their own advantages and disadvantages. The difference in costs and the way each paint behaves when used are some of the factors that people consider when they pick out a medium to paint, but many purists believe that oil paintings are the way to go, as they look the best. It is because there is richness and sheen to oil paintings that is simply not there in the other mediums that we use for painting. Of course, what surface you are using to paint also makes a big difference like painting on fabrics and creating art for wearing and decoration.

Katie Butler is a visual artist living and working out of her home in Toronto, Canada. Katie works mainly with acrylics to create colourful and moody figurative paintings. Her love for painting was reignited in 2019, when she began offering commission portraits surrounding themes of body positivity. Since then, her work has pivoted towards the portrayal of candid moments. Katie uses her art as a means for storytelling — depicting scenes where the subject becomes the character of a larger narrative, often through the expressive nature of the human form. Pictured here in a size medium.
