PARTYYYYYY is this week's theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. Party, to me, in a crafty sense, is being able to let loose and have fun and not worry about perfection. To that end, I created these three scrappy notebooks using a page from Dina Wakley's Collage Collective as a base layer. Things get busy this time of year, so I decided to make the covers of these notebooks using one of Dina Wakley's collages. That meant that I didn't have to start from scratch and that's a time saver! Here's a picture of the printed collage picture I used, which is in Dina's Collage Collective 2, Volume 1. I decided to tweak this collage with paint and pattern marks (not that I think I'm better than Dina Wakley, mind you). I made the marks using Scribble Sticks and a black Distress crayon and I slathered on white paint using a palette knife. Here's how it looked after I was done with it: What to do next? I decided to cut this up and make some mini notebooks. I cut the page into thirds and stamped on some adorable little creatures from AALL & Create's Up Up and Away stamp set. Then I stamped some text onto paper (courtesy of Tim Holtz's Theories stamp set) and tore up some patterned paper and leftover scraps from previous projects. I decided to add some painted stars, which I made with white paint and Simon's Scattered Stars stencil. When this was done, I glued the scraps onto the covers of my notebooks. And now for the insides! I stacked up scraps of random paper I had and punched holes in the middle using the Crop-A-Dile. I used waxed thread to bind the pages together and bind the cover to the pages. Here's how we were looking on the inside after assembly: I sewed some fabric scraps into long narrow ribbon, which I tied around the books to keep them closed. I also glued some fabric scraps to the covers here and there. Hello Monday my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the Spritz and Splatter Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too. This week the challenge is: FUN WITH STENCILS I decided to make some ATC's with stencils for this week's challenge with bright colors. I started by using texture paste and the ATC stencils on heavy stock paper, then dried it completely. Next, I blended inks over the ATC's with blending brushes. Next, wipe back some of the colors with a baby wipe over the glossy paste. I went around the edges with black ink, added words, enamel dots, and images. Delightful Dreamer... Perfectly Possible... The Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog theme for this week is "anything but a card." I revamped the cover of a notebook. Wah-la! I started by slapping some dark paint down on a piece of Strathmore Mixed Media paper that I'd cut to the size of the cover of a small notebook I had. Then I stenciled some circles on with white paint. I added some color with more acrylic paint. I got out some paper number strips, added color to those, and glued them onto my notebook cover. I needed more color, so I added some pinks and reds and some black and white patterned paper. But then I felt like it was a little TOO crazy-- as if someone puked out a bunch of colored stuff onto this page. I'm not going to lie. What came next was an exercise in frustration and almost trashing this whole thing about five times. But I toned it down with white paint, sewed the cover onto my notebook, then stamped a bit of a floral branch using Tim Holtz's Media Marks 2 stamp set. I ripped some things off, then glued them back on, then fiddled and fussed and this is what it ended up like. I turned to Dina Wakley's Ledger Paper (again -- I love it) and cut out the sentiment "We will try. Again" and glued that down. This baby was finally finished. Here's a picture of it next to a pen to help show the scale. And here are the supplies I used that you can find at Simon Says Stamp: Strathmore Mixed Media Paper Fairy Hugs Water Stains Stencil Tim Holtz Ephemera Snippets Number Strips Dina Wakley Ledger Pages, Set 1 Tim Holtz Media Marks 2 Stamp Set Dina Wakley Paint: White, Black, Olive, Sky, Lapis, Lime, Lemon Distress Paint: Salvaged Patina, Kitsch Flamingo Dylusions Paint: Mushy Peas, Strawberry Daiquiri, Cherry Pie Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink Acrylic Block UHU Glue Stick What will you make this week that isn't a card? A couple years ago during a end of year reflection, I decided I wanted to challenge myself to taking really good care of myself. After years and years of making resolutions to change my body (i.e. become thinner) I finally decided I wanted to focus my efforts on loving myself really really well and seeing what happened. That year ended up being one of the most transformative years for me. The ripple effects of taking care of myself body, mind, and soul was incredible.

Hi friends! It's time for a new Mojo Monday sketch! As always, you're free to play along with any papercrafting products your heart desires and enter as many creations as you like. Use the sketch as inspiration for your creation, then come link it up below so I can come take a look! The linky for this challenge will close on June 28 2020. I have included dimensions on the graphic later in this post, but feel free to change them up to suit your needs. My card started with these beautiful papers from the By the Sea collection. I picked a few papers and cut into various scraps and laid them out until I was happy with the layout. I then cut out a white circle for my focal panel and stamped with sentiments from the Thoughtful Words set. Below that I used one of the stamps from the Texture Tiles 3 set for the water, stamped in navy and then lightly blended with the same color of ink. The rope image is from the Peace Be Still set and I colored with copics and hand trimmed, adding some crystal clear lacquer pen accents to add a little dimension to it. The anchor is a wood veneer piece from my stash, I lightly brushed a ground espresso oxide pad over it then embossed with clear embossing powder for a little more texture. Everything is glued together on an A2 size card base. Alrighty, now it's your turn! I hope you enjoy creating with this sketch! Thanks so much for stopping by! Please join me for Mojo Monday! Click here to enter If you shop through the affiliated links below I get a small percentage of the sale price at no cost to you! It's not a lot, but it does help pay the monthly fees for the linkup widget for Mojo Monday and other web and email services that help me keep Mojo Monday running smoothly! Thanks so much! 💙
Explore the World is this week's theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I lack time and money to be able to travel the world at this point in life, so I made a Magical Transport Box instead. Just turn the dial and presto! You're somewhere wonderfully dreamy! I started off by using one of PaperArtsy's Eclectica Everything Art stamp sets, which I love, and paper-pieced together the spinning destination wheel using various pieces of patterned paper. When it was done, I added some of my favorite destinations to each wedge of the circle. Next I covered an old greeting card box with patterned paper (Bloom by Crate Paper), then streaked on some yellow, orange and white paint for a little more oomph. I stamped here and there on the background and then attached my spinner wheel with a brad. I added the "You Are Here" sentiment and arrow from My Favorite Things' "Go With It" stamp set. I added some flowers up the side using Martha Stewart's Hydrangea punches and added the repeated Magical Transport Box sentiment that I typed out in Word. So what's inside the box? I covered it with map paper from Authenique and polka-dot paper from Simple Stories. It holds photographs of people and places I love. I also made a magnet board covered with patterned paper that fits inside the box, which I can display any one of these pictures on. I made a magnet for it out of Scrabble tiles that says, "Go!" It seemed like just the right enthusiastic word to get me moving toward my favorite places. Hello Monday my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the Love is in the Air Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too. This week the challenge is: FRAME IT My one little word for 2023 is VISION. I have been on a vision quest (or a quest for my vision) since 2021 when I had an abrupt change in my vision in my left eye. I discovered I have a rare eye disease, and am very grateful my local retina specialist sent me to see a doctor in New York City who is doing cutting edge research and surgery. I believe without the two surgeries I've had, my left eye would have very little ability to see anything. After many follow ups, I am realizing I will always have some issues seeing clearly. My best hope is to reframe my thinking about what I can and can't do, and keep a positive approach to my vision. I have made many adaptations to how I work, and I really, really hope I will be able to drive again. My art journal spread reflects this journey to better sight. I began with paints in blues and purples (thought I would change up the palette a bit). I spread it on with a silicone brush and my fingers, and blended with a baby wipe. I've been reading so many eye charts lately (and I've made a lot of progress from only seeing movement or fingers held up in front of me) that I wanted to add letters and numbers into the background. Simon's stencils and inks are perfect for this. I used the Tattered Elements stamp to frame the envelope. (sometimes the news is good, and other times it's disheartening) I blended the inks on the envelope to match the background colors, then fussy cut it out. The envelope is framing the optical lenses. Yep, there's my trusty cuppa sitting on my desk while I craft. I doodled a left eye onto the page - lots of symbolism there! I wanted a bit more color, and the Scribble Sticks work great for that. Just dip the stick in water and color over the stamped image for a watercolor effect. Details... "Everything happens for a reason. It's just a matter of moving your point of view around and you see it." I'm working really hard at moving my point of view around! I purposely left space on the left hand side to add some persona journaling about what I am experiencing. And here's my inspiration for the page - a photo my sister took of me at the Optometrist my surgeon sent me to. With my mask on, I look like the plague doctor, lol. I can't wait to get my new prescription to see how that helps me! Final step was to add some white splatters to the page, and I am done! Hello, hello and happy 2022! It's January 3rd and so far, so good! We are jumping right into the new year with a challenge theme of Something NEW over at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. It seemed like the perfect excuse to buy some new stamps from Carabelle Studio, which we're also featuring, and which I was only too glad to do. I then proceeded to make a tag trio with these fantastically quirky stamp images. I started by stamping the images on white cardstock with Ranger Jet Black Archival ink, fussy-cutting them out, and decorating them with washi tape and paint. The stamp sets I used are called Fairy Town and Little People. Once the paint dries, I like to go back in and outline the black stamp lines with a black pen or marker if they got too faded out under all that paint. And what, oh what, to attach the tags to? I went with these adorable mini tags from Studio Light (Art by Marlene: So-fish-ticated). I used Ranger Kraft paper and Strathmore Mixed Media white paper for the double-layers here. I don't know why I bothered to use Kraft paper, because I ended up covering all that lovely cardboardy brown with different layers of acrylic paint (eyeroll to myself). It is the endless cycle of painting colors, then painting white over it to tone it down, then painting more colors, then more white...it would drive you nuts to watch in live action, but there you have it. Once I had the color on, I wanted to add some faint black-and-white line imagery, so I stamped more images onto my painted tags. I laid my fussy-cut images on top of the tags and that's when I realized that the square tag looked a little sparse with just the mushroom on it, so I stamped, cut, and decorated another image to add to the tag. With all of my forefront pieces done and the backgrounds ready, I glued everything together and was done! Here's a close-up of each: These little tags were fun to make and the images were fantastic from the get-go! Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the USE DIES Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too. Our Let It Snow challenge will be a two week challenge, since we all get so busy at this holiday time of year. This week the challenge is: LET IT SNOW! I have not scrapbooked in such a long time, it feels really good to pull out some "vintage" photos of my sons playing in the snow. We have a hill behind our house and open fields at that time, so they used to toboggan and sled on it. It's an exhilarating ride down, and a long haul back up. These two would keep going until they were cold and exhausted. Ahh, good memories! So,,, there are two reasons I am picking up my scrapbooking again. I've spent a few weeks organizing and purging my creative space (lots more work to do!) so I finally have a large enough workspace to do larger projects, and I could finally get to my photos. The second reason is, I spent a weekend with my son's girlfriend helping get her set up to scrapbook a pet album. She inspired me to pick it up again. Since this is all about snow, I stamped the snowman from Tim Holtz's Stamptember set from this year. Cut and mounted the snow photos... Tim Holtz's Festive Words dies are perfect for this challenge! Popped in the little snowman... I stamped a few snowflakes in the open spaces with Simon's Making Spirits Bright stamp set from the December card kit. Liking the mix of photos, die cuts and blues... That pop of red really stands out... Hello Winter! Let it Snow! WISHING YOU AND YOURS ALL THE MAGIC OF THE SEASON! Hello Monday my friends! We have a new challenge for you this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - SPRAYS AND SPLASHES. If you like to get messy, this is the opportunity to do that! I pulled out lots of paints and sprays this week to play with in my art journal. I started with a collage sheet from Dina Wakley and added some strips of Eastern Influence paper onto it. Then, I started adding in stenciled images to begin to pull everything together. And then, I will admit I went a little wild with splashes of Gloss sprays, paint, and ink. Kind of a mess I thought. So then I smudged in some white and black paint and added some drips. At this point, it really looks nothing like where I began. I decided I needed some more splashes of color, and added in some pink dots with the end of a wood skewer. I cut the sheet into four, added some words and images. Then, I decided the white paper in the art journal was too much, so found some old paper that I added in, then added my colorful pieces. More drips and splashes. Then, I decided to add in a bit more color with oil pastels. Final step was to cut out some collage tissue and add a few circles to connect all the cards across the pages. It was fun going through my stash to find old photos for each quote. Are you ready to do some spraying and splashing? Come join us this week in our fun challenge. I am using a new stamp set for this sketch called Moroccan Nights! I received it a few weeks back while at Onstage Live in SLC. It will be in the SU! annual catalog starting June 1st, 2016. I really like this image and decided to highlight a few in colors with it! I stamped in Peekaboo Peach and sponged Dapper Denim on my wood element! I am not a blue and orange girl..but the peach color is really nice and not so orange. I added a little new Whisper White thick twine to the bottom to finish it off. I hope you can join the sketch over at global-design-project.com this week! Thanks for stopping by! Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the THINKING OF YOU Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too. Since it's the first of the month, we are also showcasing the wonderful products of Carabelle Studio this week. Please join me in welcoming this month's guest designer, Anita Rao! This week the challenge is: GRUNGE IT UP The most precious things of life are near at hand Isn't this a great stamp from Carabelle Studio for backgrounds? I love the mix of text, numbers, and doodled circles. I started by stamping directly into the journal, but it didn't go so well. I looked through my stash of handmade papers and found this one. I use the paper bags that come with the Simon Says Stamp card kits when I paint or spray. I also wipe off extra paint, add designs and make something totally new. I stamped the art journal stamp over my paper, and ripped around the edges. Meanwhile, I added texture to the sides of the page with texture paste and the Tim Holtz Ringer stencil. I decided to cut out the circles in the stamped design and lay it over the previously stamped image in the journal. I used collage medium to adhere the paper to the journal. I kept the cut circles and added them around the design. To connect the circles in the design with those on the textured edges, I used a bottle cap and black paint to add more circles. Now, it's time to find a focal point. I went to my Tim Holtz paper dolls and pulled this one out of a mother and child. Then, this chip quote said, "yes, I fit perfectly here." Lots of grungy texture... I love this mix of grungy colors with hints of orange and turquoise. And, yes, coat and hat weather is returning here. I am fighting putting on shoes and socks again, I'm just not ready to bundle up yet. Hello Monday my friends! Welcome back to our latest challenge at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - FOOD/DRINK, take your pick or do both! I couldn't resist a TEA theme with this oh, so proper British gent. I started with Simon's Slimline card, and added watercolor to the teacups stamp. then stamped twice. As that dried, I stamped and added watercolor to eh gentleman, then fussy cut him. I like to use space on the paper to check my color blending. I added a bit of light stenciling to the open areas. Later, I decided the water colored cups needed more definition, so I stamped them on vellum, fussy cut, and overlaid them. I also added Glossy Accents to the monocle. So, how about a spot of tea with me? We can sit on the deck and enjoy the mountains while we sip our tea. Now it's your turn to create and join the fun with us this week!
