Paper pulp creations by Debbie Wijskamp
Polina Miliou's process of caressing and pampering her paper pulp pieces – in combination with their organic curvy silhouette – makes them feel alive.
Note: This video is pre-recorded and not a live class. As part of her practice, artist Yasuna Iman developed Paperscapes, the sculptural paper wall pieces made from pulp of maple fibers and lime and created using ancient hand making paper processes. Without involving a mold or deckle to create a perfectly deckled piece of paper, the shapes of the Paperscapes are freely made by hand and are inspired by the organic forms found in nature. In this workshop, Yasuna will show you how to create your own sculptural papers. Using recycled paper scraps instead of wood fibers, making the process more accessible. By adding dried plants to the pulp you will be guided how to transform these paper scraps into beautiful textured artworks made from natural materials. This recycled paper making technique will not require any machines or electricity and will be entirely made by hand from start to finish. This class includes : Private YouTube Video link. PDFs, and FAQs by Yasuna. Watch indefinitely.
Hanging from the ceiling like candy-colored droplets, the paper-pulp mobiles by Yuko Nishikawa turn a stark gallery into a whimsical dreamscape. The Brooklyn-based artist fashions wide, sloping vessels and punctured rings from recycled packages, old diaries, sketches, and other waste materials, forming individual pods that attach to sprawling metal armature. Ephemeral in material and design, each piece is created with the intention that it will be unassembled and reverted back to its muddled form for resculpting. More

My cast paper fragments eventually dried and when I pulled them I was able to see which were successful and which were not. These are the ones I like. I'll make multiples of these and experiment with different designs as well. Stay with me as I progress with these. Peter Gentenaar, a paper artist based in the Netherlands, creates ethereal, large-scale sculptures of organic shapes that float in mid-air as they hang from the ceilings. Some look like aquatic plant life while others resemble the qualities of bright, delicate spring flowers. Gentenaar's craft evolved from his love for paper, a passion he acquired from the many years he spent working in a printmaking shop. His unusual, stunning work defies conventional thinking regarding paper's colloquial, everyday use. Read more after the jump.

Dutch artist Peter Gentenaar makes objects in flax and hemp pulp, poured out on flat skeletons of bamboo slats. During the drying of the pulp, the paper-pulp shrinks about 30% and deforms the slat-skeletons. The artist intervenes and guides the constructions into their final three-dimensional form. The result is a highly ornamental paper artwork in an unlimited multitude of shapes and sizes.
