Pakistani artist Khalil Chishtee takes an unwanted, meddlesome material — the plastic grocery bag — and creates sculptures that express feelings of sorrow, dejection and even victimhood. Chishtee builds human figures from these discarded objects, leaving the bags' rough, torn edges visible to add a sense of fragility to the works. Captivating with their delicate beauty, the monochromatic figures sullenly peer at their feet; some are life-like while others appear supernatural with angel wings or altered limbs.
