About The Artwork I was born in 1973, and my parents were farmers. In 1999, I got enrolled into an art college with a dream of becoming an artist. I am currently a father, a husband, and a painter. The duality and struggle between a domestic life of being a parent and spouse with a working life became a subject matter to my work. My work expresses conflicts and emotions aroused from distinct social roles through figurative subjects that ranges from models and cartoon characters, to gods. For each piece, I start with a simple drawing on a canvas of a chosen figure/ image. Then, I go into a constant exploration of constructing and deconstructing the image with obsessive amount of acrylics or oils to ease out my emotions. I adapt myself and live out the society through such actions. Merging introspection and visual spectacle, Asencio's personal investigations of the figure, spirituality and abstraction possess the power to transform todays ideals of elegance and sensuality. Abstract expressionism or Abstract realism Asencio's work cannot be categorized by style or semantics.

This original painting is from around 2004 when I was heavily under the influence of surrealism. The sunset landscape is punctuated with groups of figures and a landform making an image of a face. There are a lot of unusual details painted into this scene This is one of the first paintings I made that experiments with a wildly colorful flow of abstraction within a representational image. Approximately 2 feet wide by 3 feet tall by 1 inch deep. Painted with acrylics on a gessoed canvas stretched over a wooden frame. Ready to hang.
