Art Deco (short form of the French art décoratif, "decorative art"), is an architecture, art and design style from the period between 1920 and the beginning of World War II. The peak of the style occurred with the world exhibition in Paris in 1925 Exposition internationale des arts decoratifs et industriels modernes. Art Deco was a reaction against, among other things, the Bauhaus school's emphasis on simplification and industrial mass production. Art Deco wanted to emphasize the individual, decorative and exclusive and made its presence felt in Europe primarily in interior design and furniture design during the 1920s, while the style was popular in the United States until the early 1950s. In Miami, there are buildings along Ocean Drive in the Art Deco style. The motifs were taken primarily from the Orient, Egypt, ancient Greece and Rome. The opening of Tutankhamun's tomb (1922) and the heyday of Egyptology coincides with the Art Deco era. Poster: Art Deco VIII - Jonas Winge
