Hello weekend, hello you! Said bye bye to my boss today. He's going on a business trip to Nepal among a couple of other exotic spots on the map. So look forward to hearing about his adventures when he comes back. His itinerary mentioned a helicopter ride up on Himalaya. Dropped hints about pashmina shawls being the thing to bring back home ... :)) I haven't been able to play early in the month with the Prima BAPs or PPPs for quite a while but this time I actually prioritized some creative me-time instead of doing a mountain of laundry. Ah well, one's got to catch the inspiration when it comes on a visit don't you think! First the beautiful BAP sketch by Jennifer Snyder that I rotated like this. I was inspired by the diagonal flow and the circular shape in the centre and created an 8" x 8" little something on water colour paper. Here is my take, letting the photos speak for themselves. May sketch challenge . Dusty Attic 2014
Good morning! I hope your new month is off to a good start. I'm happy to start my month here on my blog with a layout that I created fo...
I had all intentions of giving last months challenge (their first) at Scrap Around The World a go....but it just didn't happen, unfortunately. But this month is different....I've done it - yay! I love the concept behind this challenge blog....a sketch plus a mood board to take your inspiration from - and there are DT members from all over the world to also inspire you, in case you're still a little bit stuck & not sure which direction to go with from the board. So anyways...this is this months sketch & mood board.... I took my inspiration from the vintage feel and the colours from the photo at the bottom right of the board - plus all the cameras from each image.....and I came up with this Ive used the green, brown, honey/mustard (from the table top) & little bit of red from the image, bottom right on the board. There's also a few little stamped camera images, as inspired by the mood board And I've stayed fairly true to the sketch. And now for some close ups.... My cluster....with one of the stamped camera images...that I stamped onto canvas, which gives a nice textured finish. And another camera My title, journaling & smaller cluster (whooops....glue not quite dry under the journaling strips! lol) Rather than the banner sweeping across my page, as in the sketch...I chose to place my banner shapes across the top of the layout, in a straight line. Here you can see some 2crafty fencing wire panel pieces popping out from behind my photo. And here is another 2crafty chipboard piece coming out from my cluster - Evan's Swirl. You may recognise the photo I've used on my layout, that I took quite a few months ago for one of the prompts for the Fat Mum Slim photo a day challenge...I think it was February. It is an old derelict house not too far from where I live...and each time I drive past it, I always wonder about it - who lived there, what did they do, where are they now (well, not them, but their descendants) etc etc....but I guess it's just one of those things that will never be known. Okie dokie...that's all from me for now folks....2 layouts in 2 weeks - I'm doing well!! hehe Enjoy your long weekend, for those in Aus who get it this weekend. Take care....xx
Hello, I would like to invite you for September challenge at OUAS and show you my page. I am very tired lately, too many things on my head, too any problems, and I watch the reality around me with sadness, disappointment in people and bitterness most of the time... everybody needs a break... for me this break is creating, it is the only way I can run, close my inner doors from the whole world. And I need a break from the world sometimes. Witajcie, zapraszam na nowe wyzwanie mapkowe na OUAS. Wykorzystałam tę mapkę do wykonania pracy mocno osobistej. Learn to pause... Do wykonania pracy użyłam białej bazy, dodatków z kitu Flying Unicorn i mgiełek 13 arts. I used just a white cardstock for my background, some Prima flowers, Shimmerz paste and stamp from Flying Unicorn KOM and 13 arts mists. kilka zbliżeń/ some details: i mapka And here is the sketch xoxo
Today there is Sketch #102 on Carabilities and it is fabulous....I just love Karan Gerber fabulous sketches...so versatile and so easy to implement on your cards or other projects. So here is the sketch....and my take on it. I started by using a 4 1/2" card white Card base that I added a piece of diagonal stripe paper from WeR Memory Keepers Notable Collection to the top. I embossed a piece of white card stock using Couture Creations Vintage Girl Embossing Folder twice. One for the card front the other to cut the center out of for a mask when I applied my Broken China Distress Ink over the top of the embossing. (This will keep the oval white so you will be able to stamp your image). stamp the Daisy Bouquet from the Sin City Stamps Memories Set with Black Memento ink twice, once directly on to the oval the second on to a piece of white scrap paper, color using your favorite markers, fussy cut out two of the daisies from the scrap paper and apply to the top of the colored daisies on the oval, this will give you dimension. Place on card base with pop dots. Stamp the sentiment from the Sin City Stamps Memories Set with Black ink and place it on the card front with pop dots. Add leaves, bow and butter fly that you have made to the top. The butterfly is stamped twice and fussy cut, colored and layer to make it look like it is flying. On the inside of the card I place a stamped honeycomb piece to the top of a piece of the diagonal Notable Paper. Love to finish the inside of my cards. So make sure to check out the challenge on the Carabilites site and link up your projects using Sketch 102. Hi everyone! This weekend I got a couple more layouts done, including this one, for the Prima BAP. LOVE the sketch from Jen - great job! My background paper comes from this year's Seashore Collection, with my paper layers & printed chipboard from the Time Traveler Collection. I used Prima stitch stamps from last year, together with my new Prima Color Burst sprays. One of my favourite techniques is splattering & I love the look of several different colours together. I use a fan brush but a narrow wooden skewer works great too. I began with some gesso - dried it off - added my background splatters then did some doodling with a black Faber Castell Pit pen, added some dry-wall tape & some thread then added my pre-made photo stack consisting of patterned papers & printed chipboard. I always compile my photo stack before adhering it (in other words I work from the photo DOWN until I have all my layers then I use foam tape to adhere the stack, to give it a slight dimension). It's always good not to over-cover the page so that there is an area remaining for journaling, that is not full of mediums - which aren't easy to write on top of. I use a dropper to get a concentrated colour around the edge of my photo stack, using a sheet of card over the top of my photo stack to prevent it from getting stained. Another trick for stacking is to use glue in the middle of your layers, leaving at least an inch around the edge so that you are able to tuck in bits & pieces. I use my fingernail along the edge of the papers to curl up the edges, which keeps things nice & loose & casual looking. Thanks so much for stopping by today!

This month, designer Kim challenged the design team to use this picture on a layout. And, we are challenging YOU to figure out which designer made each layout! Here is a link to the contest Can you guess which one is mine? Our kits always include a fabulous sketch and this is the layout I created with it. I used Euphoria from Kaisercraft's Rustic Harmony for my base page and added cards from the collection as well as a circle cut from Unity. Everything on this page except from a couple small flowers came in the kit and addons. I just adore the butterflies that our very own Angelica made for our kit! I used my WRMK Lucky 8 Frilly Lace punch to cut the large circle (it's a paper in the collection but did not come in our kits) and then I backed that with a large doily. I cut a smaller circle from Tranquil and then used the rest of Tranquil as my base. I adhered the large circle and doily to the base paper and then glued the smaller circle to that. The green thread you see running around the doily came in the main kit as did those gorgeous Prima flowers!! I added the leaf vine from my stash and some small flowers from previous kits. I then painted on some opaline Izink around the edges, on the flowers and just here and there. The awesome mail box and post are from the embellishments addon. The photo is of my husband's parents. His father was killed in the Korean War in 1951 and it is sad that his Mom never really got over it. She did remarry but these days she mostly talks about him and wonders how things would have been had he not been killed. So I chose the verse in the upper corner sort of as a nod to fate, you never know when life will be snatched away so I think it's so important to live each day as if it's your last. Comment on my blog for a chance to win a fabulous prize! See the Swirlydoos blog for details! Hi! This is Wendi, and I am the project manager for our Q2 community outreach quilt. Once again we've agreed to make a quilt for Fisher House of the Emerald Coast supporting their silent auction and gala, a major fundraising event which benefits military and military families during times of medical need. The vision for 2017's quilt is a bed of roses - literally! The blocks are improvisationally pieced roses inspired by Corey Yoder's Newtown Auction Pillow. Corey used a Quilt As You Go (QAYG) method, but our roses are going to remain unquilted until the top is put together. Using the method below, you may create roses any size between 6" and 18". As you can see, these blocks are not square, so you will have estimate their size. They can be any color that you might see actual roses growing in a garden, although you might wish to stay away from white, since our background is going to be low volume on white. The blocks are super scrappy, but try to stay within one general color family - reds, oranges, pinks, yellows, etc. It's ok if your fabrics have other colors in them, but the fabrics should "read" your primary color. So get out your scrap bag and let's get started. Choose a small scrap of yellow or orange for your center. Since my block is going to be orange, I chose yellow. If your block is square, cut some of the corners off so that it is NOT square. I like to start out with 5 sides. Choose the fabric for your first strip. It should be between 1" and 2-1/2" wide and slightly longer than the side of the center you intend to attach it to. You may use solids mixed in with your prints, but please do not use all solids. I generally start with narrower pieces and gradually add wider strips. Remember that you will be trimming the width frequently, so try not to begin with extremely narrow pieces. Tip 1: Since the pieces in my scrap box tend to be very wrinkled, I find it helpful to press each piece before I sew them together. You may use starch, but I find that a light sprinkling of water or steam works well. Tip 2: Since some of your edges will be on the bias, be careful not to stretch too much when you stitch and press. Tip 3: Be sure to use a 1/4" seam. Seams that are too narrow tend to fray and pull apart, and we want our quilts to have quality construction. Sew the two fabrics together. Press the seam away from the center. Trim off the excess. Trim the other side. Try to avoid 90-degree angles. Repeat the process on another center edge. Stitch. Press. Trim. Trim the other side. Repeat, building your rose "log-cabin style", adding a new strip to the next side in order, although it doesn't matter if you build to the left or to the right each time. Stitch. Press. Trim. Here, I trimmed off the 2nd strip so that it was at an angle. Be sure to leave more than 1/4" all along your strip for your seam allowance. Trim the other side and cut your strips at different angles each time to give interest to your "rose." Repeat the entire process - Stitch. Press. Trim.... working your way around and around your "rose." Trim off odd corners and try to avoid 90-degree angles and straight strips. If you notice that you have a "corner" approaching 90-degrees, cut it off. As your "rose" grows, this will create a number of new "sides" to your flower. Keep adding rows... Pressing... Trimming... Avoiding straight strips and 90-degree corners... And "grow" or "build" your flower... Around and around until you are satisfied with its size... Give it one last trim.... Until it makes you happy. I try to balance the colors to avoid all the darker fabrics being on one side, but honestly, no matter how you put them together, these "roses" are pretty. If you have any questions, give me a shout!

Yes! It's time for our new Emotional Challenge! Let us just say that we are really really happy that so many of you feel inspired by our ideas. But more about it later... As right now we'd like you to share you art and your feelings about.... Have you heard the saying: "Curiosity killed the cat"? How unfair, don't you think? ;) It's Curiosity that makes the world go round. Where would we be without it? Certainly not in our art rooms finding joy playing with sprays, pens and crayons. :) What are your thoughts? We are so curious to see your interpretations of this feeling... And if your mind is still blank, take a look at what our amazing Design Team created for this month's challenge... Curiosity is an important part of my life. I guess there are only a few people in the world who know what happens when I have some small problem with computer programs for example... I may not go to sleep but I will be looking for the solution. ;) I just feel the need to KNOW HOW something works. And on other hand, for me curiosity is an important element of creativity. It's all about experimenting, not being afraid, finding out what will happend when... This time I made a page in my art journal filled with experiments. Modeling paste mixed with Primary Elements pigment and... baby powder? Different kinds of mists overlapping each other? Adding Twinkling H2O's to wet gesso and covering it with crackle paint? Waiting for the results with curiosity and enjoyment? Yes, please! :) Materials from Mixed Media Place: When thinking about curiosity for this challenge, I got stuck between 2 quotes. The first one is ‘Curiosity leads to trouble’ (Alice in Wonderland) - I remember being 12 years old and opening an envelope addressed to my dad. Though it didn’t contain any secrets, his reaction to my misplaced curiosity left a mark. It was a good lesson! The second one is ‘The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.’ (Dorothy Parker). So many art pieces were born out of curiosity how one product would react with another! So I started with an envelope saying ‘Do not open’ and left my creative curiosity run from there. Materials from Mixed Media Place: People become brilliant because they always ask "Y" When I think about being curious, I think of all the great minds through history that have wondered "how, where, when, why and set about trying to answer these questions. Leonardo Di Vinci... what an inspiring human he was. I spent a long time on the background of this page, layering lots of different papers, stamping, masking and painting and kept the surface elements pretty simple, in a more traditional style. Materials from Mixed Media Place: As a mum of three kids I’m permanently fascinated by children’s curiosity and how huge is their thirst for knowledge about life and world. They never stop asking “why” and have very strong need to hear the answer and understand how the world works. As soon as I saw this month's challenge theme, I immediately knew that my interpretation would be exactly about children’s curiosity. My idea was to create this fun atmosphere in my art journal and show some children’s emotions. Using Gelatos I made my own background paper drawing doodles, then I cut it and combined with different kinds of fabric. It was the first time that I experimented and used gel medium and stencil to create some texture. I’m really pleasantly surprised with the effect. It’s much less visible than modeling paste or gesso but gives your work a more dimensional and interesting look. Materials from Mixed Media Place: This time I made three ATCs where the background is made with a mono printing plate. After making the background I cut 3 suitable pieces from each background and glued them to some cardboard, when dry I stitched around the edges. To create some extra texture I added various tapes and bandaids. Finally, I added the text. And if you're curious how Linda created her backgrounds, here's a special treat - here's a video from her: Materials from Mixed Media Place: To illustrate curiosity, I chose a quote from Albert Einstein: "Curiosity is a delicate little plant which, aside from stimulation, stands mainly in need of freedom". And what was more appropriate than this beautiful orchid... I printed the quote several times on a laser printer. Then I used the classic transfer method with matte gel medium to add randomly the quote on my background as if it was a stamp. When the gel medium was dried, I removed all trace of paper and I was able to work on. Having glued the papers under the photo, I added some gesso with a stencil. When dry, I colored the background with my Twinklings. These little jars of color are just so addictive... And I finished with some stamping. Unusually I didn’t add any flowers on my layout. I tried to add some embellishments but I like my layout this way. What do you think ? Materials from Mixed Media Place: When I started to think about this theme, the first phrase that popped into my mind was: "Curiosity killed the cat". I honestly thought about making a cat sculpture first, but then came to my senses. :) But the idea about being curious, examining the world around stayed in my mind. Jumping off that point I started to ponder about looking glasses and magnifying classes. That idea I translated onto my journal cover - there's a hole carved in the cover and a glass bead set into the opening as if it was a little window to another world. Materials from Mixed Media Place: I love to draw. :) So I began with covering one of the pages in my big art-journal (A4 size) with clear gesso and then started to play with colors. I used Gelatos and Distress Markers to add colors and Black Artist Pitt Pen to write all the letters. At the end, I used white Sharpie - you can see all supplies listed below. Materials from Mixed Media Place As for our previous challenge... First of all, thank you for your amazing response! We highly recommend everyone to go back to the links in this post - please, visit all the amazing Artists and see their interpretations of sadness - it's truly worthwhile! Not only will you see some beautiful creations but also it's interesting to read about the inspirations. Like on Ana's blog we found this great quote: "Life's like a piano. The white keys representing happinness, and the black keys representing the sadness in between. But as life goes on, you'll realize that the black keys make music, too". Or Sarah with her thought-provoking writing: "Lots of people say that they feel just happy when they are creating and I wondered if I was the strange one who feels (not only) happy, but oftentimes other, darker emotions...anger, solitude and yes sadness. Creating art is a form of therapy for me, and I feel better after a session with ink and paint." Secondly, choosing the winner was next to impossible... We thought long and we thought hard, our Design Team admitted that it was the most difficult vote of all. And even when we tried to narrow down the choice, it turned out that we have no other option but to choose 2 winners! :) Both of these works are brilliant when it comes to the technical side but they also evoke very strong emotions and we were not able to choose one over the other. So here we are - an unprecedented decision. :) Please send your congratulations and visit the amazing blogs of Dorota & Janka Ladies, please contact us to claim your prizes: store(at)mixedmediaplace.com So now, we warmly invite you to share your Curiosity inspirations adding a link below - we'll be waiting until April 18th and one work chosen by our DT will be awarded a prize (a coupon to be used in Mixed Media Place store).

This was only my March UFO. I made the final border really large, but may trim it down. I want enough space in case I choose to do swirly feathers. It isn't a top that I think needs feathers, but I want to practice them, so I figured it would do. Then it will be bound with the black polka dots fabric in the sashing. I haven't measured this since I put the borders on today (finally!!!), but it appears to be exactly 80-something by 90-something. : ) I had to put it on my design wall sideways. My year of the UFO has been an abysmal failure! My goal was that by now I would have 7 UFOs to flimsy stage. I wasn't even expecting to finish one a month. I cut myself some slack for the summer months and the holidays at year's end, and gave myself one "bye" month just in case. Little did I know. When I was asked, back in March, to do the mini quilt trunk show in May, I became laser focused on minis and have had a hard time disengaging from that mode. What can I say? I'm hooked! So here is the news from the mini front. My "Fall" Lamb for All Seasons (not to be confused with the Halloween LFAS which you can see in the post linked here) is now ready to go up on the wall as soon as October is history. If you are new to the blog, this is part of a series of seasonal little quilts I have been making using the free Primitive Gatherings "Old Glory Gatherings" pattern. Next up is what I am calling Cherry Chocolate Churndash. This was a copy of a quilt made by Kathie Holland (inspiredbyantiquequilts blog). I admired hers and she offered me fabrics to make one like it. The churndash blocks finish at 3". I am really smitten with it. You can't see the quilting very well from the front. This back view gives you a better idea. Recently Mary, (quilthollow blog) described how to get a good photo of quilting designs, and I concur. It is how I take my photos of quilting, too. In the morning I lay my quilt in front of an East facing window and let the natural light spill across the surface. The shadows accent the quilted pattern. Then I take the photo WITHOUT a flash. I think the quilt is very happy in its new home on this table in my bedroom. Love the colors, the fabrics, and the pattern! Thanks so much, Kathie! Another nod to Kathie for the fun blocks shown here. These windmill blocks finish at 4" and are made using one of the little templates found in this set from Baycreek Quilting. I lifted this photo from their website. Kathie had recently made a little quilt from these blocks and provided the link to order the templates. You can order them from Baycreek Quilting here. You get this entire set, with shipping, for under $10. I am using this for my current leader/ender project. I don't know how large I will go with this. Right now I have just cut a bunch of reds, blues, and blacks from my scrap basket. I'll see where I am when I have used these up and decide whether or not to cut more. We've had some gorgeous sunrises lately. A few days ago I told some of you I had run outside in my pjs and scampered across my frosty lawn, barefoot, to get to the corner of my yard for this shot without any power lines in it. I think it was worth it. : ) Until next time, Janet O.

Hello Shimmerz Fans! Today I have a layout that has the background loaded with yummy Shimmerz products! My background has many layers of gesso, stamping and masking with some molding paste and Texturez in Patina and Gold Mine. The Texturez added just the colors I was looking for. I also added some drips and splats in Shimmerz Aqua Marine and Coffee, and in Blingz Gold Glimmer. The chippys are all covered with dabs of Dimensionz in Pearly Gates! One more close up. Don’t forget about this months challenge to use your Shimmerz and create something with the theme “New Begginings”. This is my grandsons first time to play in the snow! Share it on our Facebook page to qualify for this months prize! On your next Shimmerz order, mention my name (or any Shimmerz Designer) (in the notes to merchant) and Stacey will send you a something FREE!!!! Swing on by our Facebook page for more inspiration. Take care and happy Scrapping!

We don't know about your corner of the world but here in Europe we are sharing a collective sigh of relief - - - > winter's over! ;) Just take a look at how we can all celebrate this fact thanks to Riikka and her amazing art + a really great step by step tutorial! Spring is on its way! The season got me in a green mood and I thought to scrap this photo I took last summer. My father is active in orienteering. Last summer while we were visiting my parents, there was an orienteering competition nearby so he asked us to join. So into the woods we all went! Our goal was to find at least one checkpoint, the intention being more just to get the feeling of the sport and support the team. I guess we would have managed a few more checkpoints, but the forest was sharing its treasures - blueberries so that the forest floor was blue! My 3-year-old was absolutely captivated by the berries so she and grandma started picking berries after the first checkpoint. My 5-year-old wanted to continue so we actually followed half of the route and found five checkpoints. I used gesso and mists together with the Gelatos to create the background. I also created little frames embossed using Gelatos to be used as embellishments. You can find the tutorial for those in this post. For journaling and doodling I used the Pit Artist Pens - my latest addiction! Have a great day! Are you curious (speaking of which, we hope you haven't missed our new Emotional challenge posted this week!) how Riikka used her magic to create these cute frames? Here's her tutorial: Embossing with Gelatos: 1. Die cut a frame using Big Shot machine. Get your Gelatos ready. 2. Color the frame using Gelatos and smear the crayon with your finger. 3. Moving quickly, sprinkle the embossing powder onto the shape. Don't let the colored surface sit as the embossing powder won't stick to the crayon. 4. Heat the shape carefully, avoid bringing the heat gun too close so the powder won't fly away. Then rub darker color of the crayons to the surface. 5. Smear with your finger - the darker color brings the texture more visible. 6. Repeat and create a bunch of little frames to be used in your projects. :) Happy Spring, everyone! Welcome to the second reveal of our February challenge! We love the entries so far! Some amazing and talented people out there :) We cant wait to see more. Please please please remember to stick to the theme and to add some journalling. We unfortunately had to disqualify some VERY beautiful entries because we could not find ANY mention of ANY journalling. As I mention below PLEASE feel free to journal in your language (we encourage that) and please feel free to include HIDDEN journalling but please do tell us in your blog post where your journalling is . Please try and also tell us how you interpret the theme. Sometimes we look at some of the entries and have NOTHING to do with our theme... On a last note, as I have mentioned before you are allowed to combine your OUAS entry with as many others as you like. But please do note that our sketch is compulsory and we noticed some people in January combined our challenge with another sketch challenge which kind of doesn't make sense. LOL! Unless the 2 sketches are identical then I cannot see how 2 sketch challenges can be combined. Thank you for your understanding :) Good luck with February;s challenge. Remember this is a short month! Only 28 days :) Journalling Theme: "Totally addicted to...." You are free to interpret our theme ANY WAY you like. It is for your inspiration and this theme word DOES NOT need to be part of your title or journalling. But please make sure your layout is based on the sketch below and includes journalling (hidden journalling is fine). Acceptable journalling is MORE than just a sentence, or generic writing such as date/place etc. It needs to be present and at least 3 lines long. Remember, hidden journalling (under a photo/tag or behind your page) is perfectly fine but please DO let us know in your post where your journalling is! Now here is what our Design Team came up with. Please click on their blogs for more details on their creations. I am sure they would love to hear from you !!! Lizzy Hill (Australia) Stephanie Schütze (Switzerland) Limor Webber (Canada) Olga Heldwein (Poland) Ulrika Blomfelt (Sweden) Journaling on the back. Stacey Young (Australia) Patricia Basson (South Africa) Olga Vasileva (Russia) Elena Smoktunova (Russia) Maja Stokk (Sweden) Anna Wiśniewska - Wiosanka (Poland) Ola Komenok (Israel) The winner of this challenge, as voted by the Design Team will be invited to come back in April as our Guest Designer. Makes a change for me to write the 'S' word along with Finish-Along 2014! But I have got myself organised and am now successfully targeting my list of quilt tops - you will find it there UP there ^ with the tabs! All my finishes were in March - my designated quilting month! This was so successful I will definitely be having another quilting month where I get my quilting groove on and finish stuff! So here are my four finishes First up my triangles quilt called Night Boat to Cairo in a fit of whimsy but irrevocably stitched like all my labels now directly quilted onto the front of my quilt. I was inspired by Annabella and her Anna Maria Horner Field Study quilt but I have all sorts of large scale patterns in mine and some glorious Oakshott solids ! This is quilted using three different colours of #aurifil 28 thread and bound with a velvet ribbon - which is a first for me! Next I finished my Hexalong project - started with Lynne (who has since sold her partially made one) and Gayle who hasn't finished hers either so although I started this abut two and a half years ago I don't feel so bad only finishing mine now! Hated my starting blocks but Helen really inspired me - with her gorgeous subdued coloured quilt - to try some different blocks out and it improved. Then Alison stopped me from choosing a safe layout and here we are with a riot but it works! The solids are Oakshott again and quilted with feathers in my attempt to emulate the wonderful Trudi! Quilting and piecing all in #aurifil 50 col 2021. First time for me binding the edge - well two of them - zigzag style - a bit fiddly as each angle needs to be stitched in place - like corners everywhere - glad in the end for the two straight sides! Then another ugly duckling - hated my very pink baskets but now love this quilt! This is an homage to Jen Kingwell and her Green Tea and Sweet Beans quilt - in fact some blocks came from that quilt, some from Lynne and Kerry's 500 Quilt blocks book, and a couple from Suzuko Koseki's fabulous book Playful Patchwork. My innovation for this quilt was the layout but also the velveteen backing - which makes a heavy but luxurious quilt - bit of a pig to machine quilt but I then added lots of hand quilting detail which was much easier than I thought it would be - should have hand quilted it all perhaps! My last quilt - finished on the Lazy Bum (virtual) Global Retreat is an attempt at modern quilting. I used (precut) hexies in Kona colours - the background ones I cut myself! This represents and is called mycelium - those things that pass for roots in funghi! Concept seems important in the modern quilt movement and I guess this also represents the quilting community and all the links people enjoy on a local level but through the internet and social media the multitude of links bringing like minded people together into greater communities - those extra links represented by my stippple quilting of the background! You see meaningful and quite attractive! So every time I look at it I will be thinking of you all! But enough of my waffle! I am linking with Katy and smiling but I cannot rest on these laurels as I have loads more to finish - and this tally gives me hope that I will. Here is a link to my FAL list Katy!
It still feels a bit like 2013! As per blog etiquette, I thought I would post a 2013 retrospective on my quilting….I use the word quilting very loosely, because when going through my projects over the last twelve months, I realised that I have only in fact quilted two things! Scrappy Trip So here's the thing…. I love piecing….that's the bit about sewing that is therapeutic for me! So I have any number of quilt tops done….but the quilting only gets done when it is "for" something….so the quilting I did in 2013 was for the guilds exhibition…note: I did get a highly commended for my Peppermint Sparkle quilt (sorry had to brag...again)….and it is going for a visit to Quilt Conference in Melbourne in April I think. So this morning I got out all my 2013 quilt tops and hung them out in a line for a photographic session....they looked pretty good I thought! Which ever way you look at them…. Introducing in order from left to right, is my Bonnie Hunter scrap baskets… My Anna Marie Horner feathers…. The Orange Sunburst fun runner…this is actually an interloper because I realised after I had taken the quilts down that it is a 2012 finish…and still un-quilted…fancy that! But while we are talking the Sunburst quilt….checkout this one that Victoria Finlay just finished…quilted and everything! The next is the Retro-astic quilt…note it has additional borders now? This was a late finish on New Year's Eve (day). And lastly the Made in Cherry which I posted about early this week. So yay me….would have loved to have done more sewing in 2013 but you can only do what you can do :) So of course...quilting resolutions for 2014 are....to sew more fabric....buy less fabric....and to quilt more quilts! Do you have any quilting related resolutions for this year? Happy New Year !
